Ghana international and Helsingborg winger David Accam is set to sign for American top-flight side Chicago Fire despite interest from English clubs, reports from Sweden claim.

Reports from Sweden have the 24-year-old en route to Chicago, apparently spurning a link to Tigres in Mexico.

Leicester City, West Bromwich Albion and West Ham are also watching the Helsingborgs winger David Accam.

Accam was reportedly the subject of a $2.78 million bid from Mexican club Tigres UANL.

The 24-year-old is from Accra in Ghana but won a scholarship as a teenager to be educated in England where he began his career in the lower leagues with Ledbury Town and Evesham.

English coach Graham Potter took him to Sweden where he was soon picked up by Helsingborgs.

He has scored 30 goals in 62 games and that has alerted Premier League sides hoping for a January bargain with his club holding out for £2.5million.

The forward has already found the net 16 times this season, and has been called up to the Ghana squad recently, although he is yet to win his first cap.

That could mean that, even if he did move back to England in January, he would be unavailable for the first month to play in the African Cup of Nations.
