According to France Football, Chelsea midfielder Michael Essien wants to leave the English Premier League side during the January transfer window for more game time.

The Ghana international wants to be fully fit for next year’s FIFA World Cup finals in Brazil.

Essien has been down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge this season and will seeking a loan move with the French Ligue 1 considered his next destination.

The box-to-box midfielder was a hit in France after playing for Bastia and Olympique Lyon before his move to England.

The 31-year-old returned to Chelsea this season from Real Madrid where was on loan last term.

But manager Jose Mourinho has not been impressed with his output.

Essien has made only six appearances for Chelsea so far and it does look like he can make more appearances.
