French Ligue 1 side Saint-Etienne are not in contention to sign Chelsea star Michael Essien due to the midfielder’s wages.

The Ghana international is still on a  € 350,000 a month salary which is way above the 90,000 euros salary cap.

Essien is set to move from the English Premier League for more game time as the FIFA World Cup finals beckons next June in Brazil.

The box-to-box midfielder has made only six appearances for Chelsea under Jose Mourinho.

Essien used to be a regular for the Portuguese when he was first in-charge at the club.
