Ghanaian midfielder Michael Essien has a bad disciplinary record this season in England.

The experienced box-to-box midfielder has picked up five yellow cards in six appearances in Premier League and Carling Cup.

The only match was not booked was in the match against West Ham United when he came on for the last six minutes.

Essien, who returned on loan from Real Madrid this season, is down the pecking order at Stamford.

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho says he will register him for the knockout stages of the UEFA Champions League.

He was excluded from the squad submitted to UEFA for the Group stages.
