Michael Essien wishes Real Madrid fans success in 2013

Real Madrid midfielder Michael Essien has told fans of club to hope for success in 2013.

The 30-year-old who joined Real Madrid this season on-loan from Chelsea had a very short but inspiring Christmas wish for fans of the Whites.

The Spanish champions have not had a good run in the first round of the season as they trail arch rivals, Barcelona by 16 points after 17 matches in the La Liga.

Madrid boss, Jose Mourinho has already said it is impossible to overturn the deficit.

This means the nine-time European champions realistically have the Copa Del Rey and the Uefa champions league to fight for between January and May 2013.

Essien and Luka Modric were the only players who used the English language when they joined all the Madrid players to pour out Christmas wishes to the fans.

“I hope you have a great 2013 with lots of success and happiness,” the former Lyon player said on the club’s official website.
