Essien will leave Chelsea within the next ten days, says his agent

Ghanaian midfielder Michael Essien will leave English side Chelsea within the next ten days but will not join lowly-rated French clubs, his agent has revealed.

Fabien Piveteau says the the Ghana international will join one of the top European clubs in the coming days as offers have poured in from UEFA Champions League sides.

Essien has only made bit-part appearances for Chelsea this season which has prompted his quest to leave the club for one of the top teams in Europe.

Piveteau insists Essien will only play for top clubs in Europe as there are offers from several top clubs with a deal expected to go through within the next ten days.

“In fact, he (Essien) could leave Chelsea this winter," Essien agent Fabien Piveteau said.

"Several major European clubs playing in the Champions League have bid for him and a decision will be made within the next ten days.

"You should know that Michael was not on the list of players, who can play in the European Cup with Chelsea, so it is free to play in the Champions League with another club."

But the French agent dismissed rumors that the Ghana international will leave the Blues for Bastia or Sochaux in the French Ligue 1.

There have been extensive reports in France that Bastia or Sochaux have all slapped in offers to sign the Ghana international but the agent has rubbished the reports.

“We need to stop with all that. Michael cannot play for Chelsea, a big club and then return to France. Do not even dream about it," Piveteau said.

"In France, if Essien cannot play for Paris or Lyon then for Bastia and Sochaux, no disrespect but I say no to that.

"Taking care of the salary of a Chelsea player is already impossible!”
