Michael Essien to learn Chelsea future on Thursday

Posted On Thursday, 24th May 2012

By Patrick Akoto

Ghana midfielder Michael Essien will learn later on Thursday whether he will be retained at Chelsea.

The European champions have released Salomon Kalou and Bosingwa in a massive clear-out as they join striker Didier Drogba who has already announced he will be leaving Stamford Bridge.

The 29-year-old seems to have lost the spark that made him the toast of many since he returned from injury and subsequently fell out-of-favour under interim boss Roberto Di Matteo.

He could only manage the substitute bench during Chelsea’s Champions League triumph over German side Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena last weekend.

The Ghanaian super star who has a year left remaining at the London club, will be invited for new contract talks over the summer, although there is no guarantee that he will stay.

It has been widely reported in the English media that the Chelsea ace will follow Florent Malouda and Paulo Ferreira out of the door.

If Essien is shown the exit-door, he will not be short of offers as Italian Champions Juventus are believed to be interested in the enforcer with AC Milan also keeping an eye on the situation.

He may also opt to join former boss Jose Mourinho at Spanish Champions Real Madrid.

    • kwame-Blazefame says:

and wat position ii sturridge, and torres play after your chelsea wasted all that money. I chelsea cannot afford falcao and hulk. Porto puts him at over 60mil and falcao over 50mil, modric over 35mil. Chelsea ii either buy one not both am sorry.

  4. Sunnypa says:

@ papadinho,we av started dirty rumour again, where did u get d information of morinho or Real madrid interested in Essien..listen Essien,if u go to real madrid u will roast 4 bench.i think Italy will be okay maybe A.c milan dat parades PaPas

  6. Sunnypa says:

U can follow chelsea news at chelsea.vitalfootball.co.uk

  7. kwasi says:

this not true!! Essien has one year more on contract and the earliest the club could sit down with him is around september either to prolong it or leave it till the end.

    • benny says:

@KWASI-YOU ARE SPOT ON.THEY WILL SIT DOWN WITH ESSIEN IN SEPTEMBER.THEY ARE MEETING DI-MATEO ON THURSDAY TO OFFER HIM ONE YEAR CONTRACT TO PROVE HIS CREDENTIAL AS A COACH CAPABLE OF HANDLING CHEASEA IN THE LONG TERM ACCORDING TO THE DAILY STAR.

  8. Azar says:

Essien, follow Gyan or go china n have more playing time. For real madrid for where, no dreaming plse. Essien my advice to you is trhat if Roberto Di is maintained as a coach of chelsit, plse run away for your life.

  9. bbc says:

Essien pls don’t let Chelsea destroy your talent. I think you have won everything any player would love to accomplish in a club therefore i advice you to leave chelsea now to a team that will offer you more playing time. As you know they can keep you and bench you especially if da matoes become the manger for next season. pls be a man and make a bold decision. All the best Essien

  10. Azar says:

@bbc, wise talk. It is left with world club championship. Essien plse live ooooo. Go to Russia, China, or the al queada nations for oil money. Follow Asamoah Gyan

  11. @bbc thanks 4de advise.i think essien still has a lot of football in him.he should leave chelsea for a champions league participating club.he is my mentor and i learn a lot from him

  12. Nyampong says:

which career destruction of gyan are u talking of. Gyan is still on form and he is also the most paid sports man in africa, receiving 16mil dollars per year. Essien still has alot in him. Even the lyks of cambiasso, zannetti, juan, geremi, malouda, perriera, cisse, gudjohnsen, puyol, pato and stam are still playing in better clubs then how much more Essien. U will be confuse why i mentioned pato. Pato has faced 12 times serious injury blows within 2 season, and attach to that the most tactical lazy player in europe. Essien felt out of favour cuz there instances where Essien comes back from injury to perform marvellously. Let me tell unless, chelseafc makes signings of better defensive midfielders other Essien or else the whole of chelseafc midfield is for him next season. Ancelotti tried he was unsafe, Scolari tried he failed, Grant tried there were errors, di matteo can face disgrace if he tries it . Now that bosingwa, Kalou ,and drogba are gone and play makers are introduce into the team, the team needs the creativity, Accuracy, strength, efficiency, tactics, and energy of Baison.

  13. Khola b says:

Buh guys i fink esien is sufficed on da money being paid 2 him by chelsea so y shud he move for oil money when he stil needs some precious rewards with his curent perfomance

  14. Sunnypa says:

@ ghana must go pple, whether u pple like it or nt esssien is a bench warmer @ d champions league final & an unused substitute.if essien stay there next season he will nt only warm d bench but also break d bench wit his fat Ass.with or without essien, chelsea is still existing…u pple should forget patrotism & face d reality dat Essien is nt d essien of B4,so why crying fowl & chicken.essien is a grand-father,only him know his real Age.dis is a village site,go to chelsea.vitalfootball.co.uk & read real chelsea fans comment.@ Benny,u are very stupid, oloriburuku olosi omo Ale….stupid banku boy

  15. latif says:

GSN u are liars!!! Essien’s contract will expire in 2014 and he’s not meeting anybody to know his fate.. RDM says he belief he’ll be back to his old self if he got a good pre-season
