Chelsea midfielder Michael Essien is set for talks with Italian outfit AC Milan, SportsDirect News has reported.

The 31-year-old has fallen down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge following his return from a season-long loan with Spanish side Real Madrid last term.

He has found his first-team opportunities limited this season and started just two Premier League games.

Chelsea completed the £21 million signing of Nemanja Matic from Benfica last week which will further hinder Essien’s chances of regular action.

AC Milan are interested in taking the Ghana international on loan for the rest of the season and a source has told SportsDirect News the midfielder could open talks with the Serie A giants as early as this afternoon.

Turkish outfit Galatasaray and Italian club Napoli are both also reportedly looking to take the Ghana international away from west London but it appears the midfielder’s most likely destination is the San Siro.
