AC Milan have confirmed Michael Essien in their official UEFA Champions League squad list for the second half of the season.

The 31-year-old, who joined the Rossoneri last month on a free transfer, was not registered by his former side Chelsea for the Group stage.

Essien’s availability for Milan will be crucial for head coach Clarence Seedorf with compatriot Sulley Muntari and Ricardp Montolivio suspended for their round of 16 tie against Atletico Madrid.

The Ghana international was on bench last Saturday when Milan drew 1-1 with Torino at the San Siro.

Goalkeepers: Abbiati, Amelia, Coppola.

Defenders: Abate, Bonera, De Sciglio, Mexes, Rami, Zaccardo, Zapata.

Midfielders: Birsa, Constant, Cristante, De Jong, Emanuelson, Essien, Montolivo, Muntari, Poli.

Strikers: Balotelli, Robinho, Kakà, Pazzini, Taarabt.

Player list B: Benedicic, El Shaarawy, Ferrari, Iotti, Modic, Pedone, Petagna, Pinato.
