Michael Essien is confident Real Madrid will win Champions League this year

Ghana midfielder Michael Essien says Real Madrid’s exceptional form over the past few weeks makes them the best candidates for this year’s Uefa Champions League title.

The Spanish giants have hit a rich vein of form that has seen them beat some of the biggest clubs in the world over the past one month.

Coach Jose Mourinho guided his side to impressive victories over Catalan giants Barcelona and Manchester United in their past five matches.

With the side now into the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League, Essien says the depth in Mourinho’s will help them win their 10th Champions League title.

“We’re possibly in excellent form now.”, the former Lyon player told the club’s official website.

“We’ve made it to the quarter-finals of the Champions League and it’s obvious to me that we have the players to win the title.

“So we have to keep working and we’ll see what happens.”

Essien hailed the role of Mourinho in moulding the Real Madrid squad adding that he has been the key factor in Real Madrid’s recent successes.

“He’s a coach, but he’s also a teacher and a father. He speaks to everyone man to man and it’s something you notice because not a lot of coaches do that,” Essien said.

“They usually come out, set the tactics…but he does everything”.

Essien will be the first Ghanaian player to win the champions twice if Real Madrid are able to win it after clinching the title with Chelsea last season.

You are very right Joe. All of us hold Ghana in high esteem & hope you respect us. I see a lot of immaturity here demeaning Ghana’s success. It isn’t a representation of sober Zambians. Ghana has had a lot of success in football. If you honestly follow football you should see we are on a rise and that we have never been an easy opponent of yours. God being on our side as he always is, we are qualifying to Brazil 2014! hard facts joe, but gahan remains a good side
