Stephen Appiah wants fans to measure their expectation on Atsu

By Patrick Akoto

Ex-Ghana captain Stephen Appiah wants fans to measure their expectations on impressive youngster Christian Atsu.

The 20-year-old impressed hugely on his Black Stars debut during the 2014 World Cup qualifiers against Lesotho and Zambia early this month.

The Porto winger completely won the fans over with his sublime dribbling skills and exceptional ball control.

But the 31-year-old believes over blowing the potential of the player could put unnecessary pressure on him in the next qualifiers.

“I think Atsu is a good player. I have watched him play and watched some of his videos on YouTube and I think he has a future with the Black Stars,” Appiah is quoted by Finder Sports

“But please you people should not overhype him. He has had an amazing two games for the Black Stars but I am sure that when he gets a bad day in a game in the future the same people singing his praises will start insulting him,”

The former Cheetah FC, tagged ‘the Ghana Messi’ has insisted in the past that he is well prepared to face harsh criticisms when his current impeccable form dips.

I totally agree with u on this one, the guy is still growing bt ghanaians are over hyping the guy. bt this same people will end up blasting him wen he gets a bad day on the park .

  3. Wiliiam Sorkpor, USA says:

Whatever recognision the youngster, — Christian Atsu — is currently enjoying from Ghanaians is well-deserved.

With all due respect: Appiah, please leave the kid alone to have his time in the sun. It’s the only way we can challenge him to reach for brighter stars.

Certainly his dark days will come, but we all pray that, they come when he is forty yeras old.

Between now, and then Ghana needs him to continue shinning. So please don’t jinx him, and lay off your critical mind.

May Lord Almighty continue to bless our beloved Great Ghana:
    Amen!!!
