Massive 2014 World Cup boost for Ghana as injured John Boye returns to training

Ghana defender John Boye has handed the Black Stars a massive 2014 World Cup boost by returning to training with the Rennes squad after a two-month injury-induced absence, GHANAsoccernet.com can exclusively reveal.

The centre-back trained with the entire squad of the French top-flight club on Monday night, the first time he has joined team since suffering the injury in October, Ghana's leading football news outfit can reveal.

The return to training with the entire Rennes first team squad shows that the talented centre-back will return to full time action in the coming days.

The news is a massive boost for coach Kwesi Appiah who was left without three of his key central defenders in the final 2014 World Cup qualifiers against Egypt.

Boye withdrew from the squad that played Egypt in the decisive 2014 World Cup playoff clash in October and November because of the thigh injury.

The injury required surgery which kept him out of action for about eight weeks.

This left coach Appiah without his first and second choice central defensive pair for the two-legged matches against Egypt in October and November.

He was the third Ghana central defender to be ruled out of the match against Egypt following the likes of Isaac Vorsah and Jonathan Mensah.

With Mensah now playing fully with French side Evian, Vorsah remains the sticking point with just about six months to the World Cup in Brazil.
