France-based midfielder Andre Ayew is set to be named the deputy captain of Ghana's national team following the likely exit of Michael Essien from the Black Stars.

According to a report on a local radio station, Asempa Leaks, the Marseille superstar will take over the position when the Black Stars assemble for their next assignment.

The report claimed that AC Milan star Essien will not be invited to play for the Black Stars in the immediate future following alleged acts of indiscipline.

According to the report, Ghana coach Kwasi Appiah is determined to stamp out all traces of indiscipline from the Black Stars after the indefinite suspension of Kevin Prince Boateng and Sulley Muntari.

This shows that the trio, who were contestants for the Black Stars deputy captain's position, are unlikely to return to the Black Stars any time soon.

Ayew, son of Ghana legend Abedi Ayew Pele, has long been touted to lead the Black Stars as a skipper following in the footsteps of his father.

The Marseille superstar led Ghana to win the U20 World Cup title and he is widely tipped to become a future leader in the Black Stars team
