We marry footballers because of love not money- Emmanuel Duah's ex-wife
Emmanuel Duah's ex-wife Lawrencia Thompson.

Lawrencia Thompson, ex-wife of retired Ghana winger Emmanuel Duah, has rubbished suggestions that women marry Ghanaian footballers because of their money and not true love.

The media practitioner is one of the many Ghanaian ladies who have divorced former Ghana footballers after their playing careers.

Currently, former Black Stars defender John Pantsil is fighting to save his marriage after Richlove filed for divorce.

John Mensah is also sorting out his divorce compensation package for his ex-wife Henrietta and the wife of Ishmael Addo is seeking separation at an Accra High Court.

The number of divorce cases has escalated the past months with reports claiming that about 33 percent of footballers’ wives divorced them exactly a year after retiring from football.

“I did not go in for money. I got married to my ex-husband because I loved him, and I do not think any of the footballers’ wives went into their marriages because of money and fame,” Lawrencia told Ruzz.

“It is also not true that we got married to them because they were footballers and had money.

“On the contrary, we got married to them because we loved them and we would still have gotten married to them if they were not footballers at that time. I think it is the level of attraction which had nothing to do with either money or fame.

Lawrencia says society is wrong to label them as gold-diggers because of their ostentatious lifestyles.

“We do not love their money. They rather come chasing us.”

Do you agree with Lawrentia Thompson, ex-wife of Emmanuel Duah, that ladies who marry footballers really love them? Are these ladies gold-diggers? Let’s hear from you in the comment box below:
