Ghana international John Pantsil could be deployed as a midfielder at his new cub Maritzburg United having impressed in that position at his former club Santos.

“Pantsil experience will be vital for us and I think he is some sort of redefining his career in the middle,” Maritzburg coach Steve Komphela said.

The 33-year-old is gradually reviving his career in South Africa having spent a season in the second-tier league before making the move to the top-flight.

Paintsil’s career took a nosedive after playing at the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations held in South Africa.

He hogged the headlines for all the wrong when he was accused of bedding prostitutes during the tournament.

The experienced right-back had a domestic problem with the wife and was arrested for beating up her after a dispute.

But the former West Ham United and Fulham defender is looking to breath a new lease of life in his career with his recent move to Maritzburg.

He was a member of the Ghana team which reached the quarter-finals of the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
