Marcel Desaily has tipped Portugal to win Euro 2012

By Patrick Akoto

France legend Marcel Desaily has tipped Portugal to win the Euro 2012 Championship.

The Portuguese are back in action on Thursday to face group A winner Czech Republic in the first of the four quarter-finals.

After suffering a heavy tournament-opening loss to Russia, Czech Republic turned things aroud with victories over Greece and Poland to earn themselves a place among Euro’s 2012 final eight teams.

It will be the third meeting between the two sides in the last five championships, with each side having won one apiece — the most important belonging to the Czechs in the 1996 quarter-finals on their way to losing to Germany in the final.

But Desailly, who won the Championship with France in 2000, believes Paulo Bento’s men hold the aces to triumph

“I like Portugal. I don’t want Spain anymore to win the Euro because I want to share in the victory,” Dessaily told Radio XYZ

“We need to have other faces and I like Portugal definitely.

“France have lost a game in the qualification group but really I would love Portugal to get it finally,”

I strongly agree with Desaily also, but Spain is still a treat, Portugal can beat Germany if the meet again and had they taking their chances well in the opening group match against the Germans, would have won or at least had a draw Game.
