Ghanaian goal buccaneer Abdul Majeed Waris is delighted with his last-gasp strike for Spartak Moscow which earned them the maximum points at FK Rostov in a narrow 1-0 win in the Russian Premier League on Sunday.Ã
With the title sight slowly slipping away from within Spartak's à reach, it took the 22-year-old to climb off the substitute bench to rescue the maximum points at the Stadion Olimp 2à two minutes from the end of normal time.
"It was important to score you know. The leaders are widening the gap at the top and we have dropped to third so the goal was key and I'm happy it came through me at that crucial moment," he told GHANAsoccernet.com.
From the moment the Black Stars attacker tossed onto the pitch as a 68th minute replacement for Spanish international Jurado, he changed the texture of game and introduced the much needed freshness into Spartak's attack.
And his unmatched alertness allowed him to easily pick the pocket of the hosts defence and connected home a corner kick from the right.
Since joining Spartak from Swedish side BK Hacken, the impact in Russia has been on - enjoying just 39 minutes of playing time.
But his vigorous passion upfront and gliding talent has always propelled him and his strike on Sunday looks more like a sign of what is to come in January as he is set to go on loan.
