Manchester City coach Mancini wants Abu to return Ghana national team

Posted On Thursday, 30th August 2012

Mohammed Abu has the backing of Roberto Mancini to regain his Ghana place

Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini believes Mohammed Abu’s loan move to Rayo Vallecano can help revive his international career.

Abu, owned by the English champions, has been transferred to the Spanish La Liga outfit to aid his development.

Abu has lost his place in the Ghana squad since playing at the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon and Equatorial Guinea.

But the coach of the English giants believes he will the move to Spain will help him return to the Black Stars.

“We think this will be a good move for the player, great experience and a fantastic chance for him to play regularly and get back into the Ghana national team,” Roberto Mancini said.

“Mohammed has done well on loan and is a good player with good potential. He will be playing in a top league with high class players.”

The 20-year-old signed a new long-term contract at City in October 2011  and spent last season at Norweigan outfit Stromsgodset where he made 35 appearances.
Rayo Vallecano are widely regarded as Madrid’s third biggest side.
Last season, Los Franjirrojos finished 15th in their first year back in La Liga since 2002/03.

Let’s hope so. Highly intelligent player but plays with too much caution in Ghana shirt. He needs to freely express himself to win the coach’s confidence.
