Jeffery Schlupp
Manchester United trialist Jeffrey Schlupp made his first outing in a Red Devils shirt last night for the under-21s.
Manchester United came away from their under-21 fixture with Liverpool last night more than satisfied, winning 2-1 against a home side who fielded Jonjo Shelvey and Raheem Sterling.
United won 1-0 thanks to an injury-time goal from defender Michele Fornasier, in a fixture which is a must-win at any level for both teams.
Making his debut in a Red Devils shirt was Jeffrey Schlupp, a trialist on loan from Leicester City, who has been with United for over a month.
Schlupp is 20, already capped by Ghana, and can play a variety of positions, up front, on the left-wing, or even at left-back.
Last night he led the line for United’s side up front, and completed all 90 minutes. How did he get on?
Well he didn’t score, but he certainly had his moments. As United’s official website reports: “Schlupp, who has won full international honours with Ghana, troubled Liverpool all night with his pace and could – perhaps should – have scored several times in either half.
“Inside two minutes, the 20-year-old slotted just wide after racing onto a through-ball, before seeing his shot blocked by Liverpool goalkeeper Daniel Ward after being played through by Tom Lawrence soon after, as United started brightly.”
He was also involved in the goal, when he created a chance for a teammate which whose shot rebounded to Fornasier to force in, so he can certainly be satisfied he did his bit.
So while his finishing was a bit rusty, there were still plenty of positive signs. He’ll be glad it ended with a win, and the good news from his poor chance conversion is his versatility, as it may be his future lies playing on the wing.
Here are how watching United fans reacted on Twitter to his display:
@billy_gudgeon: Schlupp in 4years is going to rip the Premier League Apart#MUFC
@nathanyoud: Schlupp looks like a more powerful version of Welbeck, always working hard, but useless in the box. #MUFC #MUFCU21
@andycave: Not a bad performance from triallist Jeffrey Schlupp. Worth another outing, I’d say #mufcreserves
@shaunwalshpd: Played well tonight @Jeffrey_Schlupp unlucky with them 2 chances#future
@matherto: Schlupp is the new Saha. Quick, powerful and ****ing crap at finishing#mufc
@munitedgirl: I’m really impressed with Schlupp’s performance!
@andre_ds18: I like the look of Schlupp a lot
@mr_mitchb: Schlupp was impressive, great head downs and pace, I like him.
@hennomg: That Schlupp looks very promising. Should’ve scored 4-5 times tonight.
@doronsalomon: Schlupp reminded me a bit of Ebanks-Blake – quick, powerful, strong, good movement but link-up a bit poor. Had to be more clinical too.
@saf_salvi: This schlupp guy is good ! #MUFC
@thomoomccarthy: What a ****ing save, Schlupp could of had five tonight, looks like a great talent #lfc#mufc
The player himself had this to say:
@jeffrey_schlupp: Thanks for all the nice messages everyone! much appreciated
a foreign coach with keen eye for the best talenta called this random guy and gave him his debut. I repeat a foreign coach. And very soon schlupp will be an asset. How can we hire a coach who doesnt even know how to use a computer? is he even capable of following international games. why is GFA doing this to ghana football? GO BACK TO HIRING COACHES ON COMPETENCE WHETHER FOREIGN OR LOCAL , THE WORLD IS GLOBAL VILLAGE.
You are an APE and a DOG!!!! Do you think Oyibo man values you as much as you value him here? Kwasea!! Where are those coaches today? Unemployed!!! Wo y3 ofui paa waate?
Kwesi Appiah is the best coach in Africa today!!
Kwasi Appiah is even not the best coach in coaching staff of the Blackstars currently. Maxwell Konadu is miles ahead of him in everything coaching. I am sad he is ruining the chances of other local coaches in getting the Blackstar job. This experiment should be over now.
We never had management problems when we had foreign coaches. There is always a problem/confusion when a Black man is chosen to head the BS.I think tribal sentiment is pulling us back. The moment Akwasi Appiah was made coach, I knew he would create confusion. He was selected just to be manupulated
Have you forgotten Claude Le Roy and Isaac Boakye?
Plavi and Kevin Prince Boateng?
Milo and Muntari?
You are a DEVIL and a DOG!! You are APE and need to be KICKED IN THE FACE NUMEROUS TIMES!! DEMON!!!
Take you filthy thinking about of here!!
Be civil and make your point. Your attitude on this forum is unlike a true Ghanaman.
Well I grew up a bit differently than the average Ghanaian.
Ghanaman, I’m glad you are different from the average Ghanaian.I’m beginning to believe that you were raised in one of the remote forest in Ghana, together with wild animals and beast roaming around. You are not civilized and therefore you behave like one of those Baboons and Ape in the jungle. Please remember, this is not a jungle to attack people but a forum for every civlized Ghanaian to express their opinion. You guys are part of the reason Ghana is what it is.You can’t just fight for your right but just accept the status quo.You damm beast.
@ghanaman, Akwasi Appiah doesn’t know what twitter is. He thinks it is the name of a new breed of bushmeat. You ask him about facebook, he says where can I buy the book? you tell him to watch a game on stream he says I dont like water games.
