Malawi coach vows to eliminate Ghana

Posted On Sunday, 9th September 2012

Malawi coach Kinnah Phiri believes his side can eliminate Ghana from the 2013 AFCON qualifiers

Malawi coach Kinnah Phiri claims his side will overturn the 2-0 deficit and qualify ahead of Ghana for the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations finals.

The Flames put up a brave fight at the Accra Sports Stadium on Saturday but were undone by two goals from Christian Atsu and Anthony Annan in the final round first leg qualifier.
Malawi must score three unanswered goals in the return leg on October 12 to book a third Nations Cup finals appearance.
Phiri believes his side hold the aces to oust Ghana, who were unimpressive especially in the first half.
“They will come to Malawi and we know how we conceded those two goals,” he said in a post-match interview.
“The story is not finished they will still come to Malawi and we know how we play at home. So it is not a problem.”
Malawi will be without the services of centre-back James Singala who was sent for yellow card accumulation.

Coach what is your strategy, break the legs of all our attackers? I have not seen such ugly tackling in soccer. This is a disgrace, I am surprised only one Malawi player got a red card. Most of the Ghana players were writhing in pain, Atsu, Gyan, Opare, Annan etc.

Let us play fair, remember the “fairplay statement at the beginning of the game? Let us play fair, clean and beautiful soccer and may the best team win.

  2. Edward says:

I don’t actually know wheather at their home the pith is twice bigger or the goal post is made of gold. The stars will win 2-0 there.

  3. garyb says:

Ref andf the assistants were playing with GHANA we noted

  4. Paul says:

@ garyb: remember the ref denied the BS two clear penalties

  5. nii adama says:

  8. KWAME NAAGBEWA says:

hahaha. all talk coach. SUCH MINNOWS LIKE MALAWI AND ZAMBIA NEVER CEASE TO AMAZE WITH THEIR FAITH. Before the start of this game there was some zambians coming on this site to talk all sort of disrespect forgetting that the the stars are high in the night sky way above them. HAHAHAHAHAH. PUT YOUR MONEY WHERE YOUR MOUTH IS AND SEE IT GO!! THIS IS ENTERTAINING!

  9. ALEX says:

Mr.Phiri,From your own mouth you said Ghana is a more experience side and that you were beaten because of experience,do you really believe you will be more experienced than Ghana in the return league to beat Ghana 3 unanswered goals? All this comments will not help you in the end, because you will be looking for another excuses should you be trashed again. If i were you i keep my mouth shut and concentrate. From what i can tell i really do not think Malawi can beat Ghana 3 unanswered goals in a very important competition like this, not even Brazil can do so to Ghana.Think twice.

  10. Frank NONDE says:

@KWAME NAAGBEWA you never cease to amuse me,Ghana was beaten at neutral ground and in Zambia and you still have the guts to call Zambia minnows. wait they will come and whack you in your backyard.

  11. Dr Who says:

This mouth mouth coach opens his mouth too wide. His team lacks quality, experience & creativity. They play cohesively though but that is not enough to beat the Black Stars.

  12. Jah Guide says:

I LIKE IT WHEN HE TALKS LIKE THAT IN FACT IT EVEN MOTIVATES THE PLAYERS MORE AND YEARN FOR MORE GOALS SO COACH JUST STAY COOL AND WATCH US COMING TO MESMERIZE YOUR TEAM .

  13. Allan says:

I dont remember the last time any African nation beat the BS 3-0. The coach should go and ask South Africa and the rest who bragged after coming to secure a draw here in Ghana.Sudan was at their bragging best but they all ended up seeing two goals in their nets in the return. The weather was too hot for the boys but never worry Malawi will be down by at least two unanswered goals in the return. Mouth mouth does not play football Mr Coach.

  14. Selfmade says:

This coach thinks is big head and big neck that can win matches!! He is just not coach because eversince the draw he has being talking alot and making empty promises to the malawian people as if he has the best team in Africa!! He said he is coming to win against us and i think he is simply a joke or he is hallucinating from overdose of wee!! How can Malawi come to Ghana to beat us? He needs to learn alot from better coaches because he is just making a fool of himself and his career.. this guy has not once acknowledged the fact that Ghana is better than them and he keeps on meaningless noise here and there!!! No matter what he do,we don’t respect his team for even a min and we know we can beat him convincingly anyday, min, hour or second! He is simply not our mate n i can assure him that he is a bird class coach and i can see he is a coward too and covered this stupidity with irrelevant talking!!! We are coming to his country to beat him again and even if he likes the match can takes place in the presidential palace or his wife bedroom,we ll still beat his lightweight team period!!

  15. Dr Who says:

Mr Phiri you need to play kunfu type of game by breaking every Ghanaian leg before you can win in Blantyre.

  16. Shark says:

I do blame the BLACK STARS for u have won of these begging Ghana tagged afcon, malawi or zambia cant vomit a word when it comes to these unskilled cocoa farmers footballer.i say it here that if u the Black stars do not win south africa 2013 then i would classify u as coffee farmers.

  17. Chu says:

phiri never learnt well from herve. herve gave ghana the optimum respect and defended for their lives even at home. A little too much optimism, a little too much of getting an away goal put malawi in a score by all means situation. well, lets see next month

  18. sade says:

@KWAME u dummy zambia won as usuall.why are tokin bout us ur the wons who thot u wud beat malawi by more than 4 goals bt alas.pipo lyk selfmade even made long irrelevant comments bt alas again u cowards.

  19. Lawrence Gomado says:

Malawi was only lucky to have run away with only two goals in their basket. We didn’t get our game going the way we should, and this shouldn’t set you on talking big. But the second leg will be a different story for the Black Stars as great humiliation to shut the coach’s big mouth in Blantyre awaits.

  20. ernest says:

if Ghana had not won afcon before it wudnt have been an issue that zambia beat us.we ve won 4 wether then or now, time always passes.i believe we were able to win 4 because ppl didnt believe until we did.zambia is not going to win the rest of afcons to come not bcos they cant but bcos we know they can.can u believe greece have won the euros b4?

  21. ernest says:

the reason why i dont like southern africans is the fact that they brag a lot and also celebrate mediocrity.
