Malaga aim to hijack Tottenham deal for Emmanuel Adebayor

MALAGA will aim to hijack Tottenham's deal for Emmanuel Adebayor, if they can't persuade Arsenal's want-away striker Robin van Persie to join them.

The club's ambitious owner, Sheikh Abdullah Al-Thani, is desperate to bring in a big-name player this summer.

And they are reportedly scouring the Premier League for attacking talent as they look to make an impact in the Champions League next season.

Having been bankrolled by the Qatari royal family, Malaga have joined Europe's elite within just two years of Al-Thani's takeover.

But club bosses are targeting a summer of heavy investment so that they can begin to compete with Spanish giants Real Madrid and Barcelona.

Malaga would certainly be able to afford any transfer fee Arsenal might demand for Van Persie, while wages would also not be a problem for the cash-rich club.

But although the Gunners would prefer to sell to a non-English club, it is unclear whether the Dutch ace would be interested in a move to a club that is unlikely to challenge for silverware immediately.

As a result, the 28-year-old might wait to see what other stars Malaga are able to bring in this summer.

And if the former Feyenoord player does reject their interest, Malaga have eyed Emmanuel Adebayor as an alternative.

Tottenham are thought to be close to a permanent deal for the Togo striker, who spent last season on-loan at White Hart Lane.

But Malaga would hope that their ability to offer a greater pay-packet could see them hijack Spurs' bid.

The Spanish side are also keeping an eye on free agent Michael Owen and Arsenal's Nicklas Bendtner as summer recruits, according to Spanish newspaper Marca.
