Majeed Waris not pressured to score in every single game for Ghana

Striker Abdul Majeed Waris insists he is not always under pressure to score to prove himself worthy of becoming a mainstay for the Black Stars.

The Spartak Moscow hitman has hit an efficient partnership with captain Asamoah Gyan upfront that has been terrorizing opposing defence in recent Ghana games.

Egypt coach Bob Bradley was quick to attest to the quality of Ghana’s striking pair in the 6-1 demolishing in the first leg of the World Cup playoffs which saw the Black Stars book its spot at next year’s World Cup in Brazil.

Waris’ goals helped Ghana during the qualifiers and is now expected to bang in the goals in every single game he plays for the Black Stars.

But the 22-year-old is adamant he doesn’t need to score in every single game to win over the fans – insisting he is more focused on helping the side win matches.

“Sometimes people always say that but me I don’t always think it is about scoring for Ghana,” he told GHANAsoccernet.com.

“Ghana winning the games is always more important than scoring.

“I am happy even if I play well and I don’t score and then I play well and the team win.

“Because I think that is the most important thing. When the team wins the happiness and joy is not only for the players but is for the whole nation as well.”
