Kickoff for Ghana’s friendly game with Liberia was delayed because the Lone Stars were yet to report to the match venue.

The Black Stars arrived at the Stadium around 14:30 GMT ahead of the 16:00 GMT kickoff in Monrovia.

The Ghana team proceeded to do its warm up and other preparations as spectators began filling the National Complex for the friendly game to mark Liberia’s  Independence.

The Black Stars finished dressing up and were all set for the game only to realize their opponents were yet to arrive at the match venue.

“We were told kickoff was at 4pm (16:00GMT) and we even confirmed it at the pre-match briefing,” Ghana FA’s Communications Director Ibrahim Sannie-Daara told Peace FM’s live commentary of the yet to start game.

“We are ready, our distinguished guests, Ghana’s Ambassador and Liberia’s President are all here for the game but the Liberia team is yet to arrive.”

Sannie-Daara revealed the delayed kickoff could scupper the Ghana FA’s itinerary for the trip.

“We are told the airport here closes at 8pm and our airport in Ghana we also understand will close at 11pm,” he said.

“We have our chartered flight waiting and therefore we are now not sure how things will be.

"I however don't want to pre-empt any action, we will wait and see what happens."

The match has now started with the Liberians showing up over an hour late from the scheduled kickoff.

The team (Lone Stars) according to information filtering through to GHANAsoccernet.com refused to leave their hotel over unpaid bonuses.

They however decided to honour the match following the timely intervention of President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf who assured express payments of all outstanding bonuses once the game against Ghana is honoured.
