Black Stars ready for battle against their yet to arrive Liberian opponents

By Ameenu Shardow

Kickoff for Ghana’s friendly game with Liberia was delayed because the Lone Stars were yet to report to the match venue.

The Black Stars arrived at the Stadium around 14:30 GMT ahead of the 16:00 GMT kickoff in Monrovia.

The Ghana team proceeded to do its warm up and other preparations as spectators began filling the National Complex for the friendly game to mark Liberia’s  Independence.

The Black Stars finished dressing up and were all set for the game only to realize their opponents were yet to arrive at the match venue.

“We were told kickoff was at 4pm (16:00GMT) and we even confirmed it at the pre-match briefing,” Ghana FA’s Communications Director Ibrahim Sannie-Daara told Peace FM’s live commentary of the yet to start game.

“We are ready, our distinguished guests, Ghana’s Ambassador and Liberia’s President are all here for the game but the Liberia team is yet to arrive.”

Sannie-Daara revealed the delayed kickoff could scupper the Ghana FA’s itinerary for the trip.

“We are told the airport here closes at 8pm and our airport in Ghana we also understand will close at 11pm,” he said.

“We have our chartered flight waiting and therefore we are now not sure how things will be.

“I however don’t want to pre-empt any action, we will wait and see what happens.”

The match has now started with the Liberians showing up over an hour late from the scheduled kickoff.

The team (Lone Stars) according to information filtering through to GHANAsoccernet.com refused to leave their hotel over unpaid bonuses.

They however decided to honour the match following the timely intervention of President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf who assured express payments of all outstanding bonuses once the game against Ghana is honoured.

At HT, Liberia 2:0 Ghana. but information were clear that the refs were very biased in the first half.

  10. Carbonite says:

is Atsu playing???? how can we be done by 2:0?

  11. kantoose says:

The players had to wait on the pitch one hour before the liberians finally showed up. they became sluggish from the start hence the two early goals. Lets wait and see if the blackstars can take their chances in the second half.

  12. Randy says:

Somebody should quickly check Kwesi Nyantakyi and Akwasi Appiah’s pockets. The match is SOLD no two ways about that. Heads will roll.

  13. Ohene says:

THE LIBERIANS BOUGHT THE MATCH TO CELEBRATE THEIR INDEPENDENCE. WASTING THE TIME OF FANS. KULULU MATCH.

  14. dadaba gonshots says:

    SACK Kwesi Appiah NOW!

We must nip this MAN in the BUD before he becomes a CANKER! Yeeeeeee, lets sack him now. join hushtag sack him now!

  15. I Can't Believe This says:

Akwasi Appiah is seriously exposed, not qualified to handle our senior national team. No ideas, no strategy, no plan B, Clueless and no game plan. A big disgrace to Ghana football and BIG insult to all soccer fans. How can you win something with this inexperience coach. Disgracing our professional players like that.

  16. Al says:

obviously a fixed match..ghana gets cash, Liberia wins, claims trophy and makes nation proud on their independence day

    • GHANAarmedROBBER says:

Whether fixed or not….Ghana gets cash or not…..It all goes down in record that the Black Stars were beaten by Liberia in an International Friendly…..na the result Fifa go check take do them ma rankings next month….cheers

  17. I Can't Believe This says:

All our leaders are so wicked and selfish with no national pride. Thieves and robbers have filled all our important positions in the country. What a day of shame to four times African Champions and World Cup quarter-finalist.
Oh Ghana dab3n !!! Up today and down tomorrow.

  18. KWAME NAAGBEWA says:

some elements within the blackstars were bought PLUS WE all know the referees were bought = ghana loose by 2 early goals.
I VERY MUCH SUSPECT THE LOCAL GOALIE FATAU DAUDAU AND ONE OR TWO DEFENDERS KNEW ABOUT THIS. KWARASEY WOULD NOT HAVE AGREED SO HE HAD TO BE RELEASED AFTER THE MALAWI GAME! 2 EARLY GOALS IN 5 MINUTES RIGHT AT THE START OF THE GAME MY ASS!!
ANY SMART PERSON CAN TELL. hahaha corruption for you. MAFIAS WITH NO DIGNITY!

  19. Young says:

This is really SAD, but clearly the someone is fucking up at the GFA. Even during our qualifiers, the vice and president were in the stands laughing and giving each other hi-fives when Atsu dribbles and losses the ball.. REALLY?? This friendly is sold as well. Liberia should be privileged to play the BS so why are we traveling to play them? No wonder why Sulley Muntari gets upset and start cursing people out in the team when we lose to mediocre countries..

  20. chipolopolo says:

Very useless team wispered into my ears by kelvin prince of germany boateng!!They claim to be the best in africa yet they are losing to a team ranked below 100th place in the world.Empty drum makes the loudest noise. They say Zambia won the last nations cup due to the absence of big names in africa! What a scrap?Does that implies that if Nigeria,Egypt,Cameroun and algeria had participated Ghana wouldn’t have even come fourth.Your guess is as good as mine!I keep saying ghana doesn’t have what it takes to win the rejuvenated africa nations cup. the 4 trophies they won can not be called africa nations cup trophies but a 4-nations invitational cup!Imagine shooting at a ghanaian and the bullets coming back to ask for touchlight?? ……ha!ha!ha!! #www.ghana@charcoal_burnt.com

  21. GHANAarmedROBBER says:

When we loose its KULULU MATCH….when we score 7 against small teams….we say we play like Barcelona.hahahahah…….soon breeze go blow ……then foul yansh go open

  22. Malian says:

Ghanaians are noise makers. Low minded, ugly and uncivilized people. When ghana team win any country in Africa they will be happy but when u win them, they will look for an excuse. And blame innocent referee. Ugly charcoal.

  23. sade says:

@Chipolopolo lets leave them alone for once lets jst watch a reality sink in for black stars to make matters worse they have got some of their best players for this game so the result will be quite accurate indication .

  24. Full Zambian says:

The ugly Ghanaian are noise makers and they always think they are the best in Africa.
No Way! we would teach them some lesson right there is Accra…Hehe— hehehehe

  25. Young says:

I conducted a survey in the U.S and apparently no one has ever heard of a country called ZAMBIA… With that said.. #get the fuck outta here.. Animals
