Legend Mohammed Polo backs Kwesi Appiah to stay on as Ghana coach

Kwesi Appiah (middle) has been backed by Mohammed Polo to continue his work

Ghana legend Mohammed Polo has advised the Ghana Football Association to maintain Kwesi Appiah as Black Stars coach.

The 1978 Africa Cup of Nations winner claims Appiah has garnered some experience in the dug-out and expects him to come better next time.

There has been a debate back home over the prolonged stay of the technical team after failing to deliver the Nations Cup trophy.

Polo wants the Football Association to keep the technical team despite the Nations Cup heartache for the sake of continuity.

“So far, as far as I’m concerned, we should keep him, we need to,” Polo, nicknamed dribbling magician, told Accra-based Joy FM.

“This guy has taken the Stars to the Nations Cup, and despite finishing fourth he has gotten some experience, we should build on that and not fire him at all.”

    A.A. Should GO!!!!!!!!!!!

  2. Dr Who says:

AA must stay! Its only a stupid person who will sack his coach with few days to a WC qualify.Even Ivory Coast,South Africa & Zambia who performed abysmal have all kept their coaching staff intact. Are we the only people with ambition to win AFCON? or are we the only people disappointed with our inability to win 2013 AFCON?…. Oles3k3 ni woye!

no matter how many times ppl explain to guys like you , you refuse to listen. Per your argument Appiah should stay because another match is a month away not because he is competent. Look at the way teams easily outplay us. Our quality players deserve a quality coach who also deserves our quality players.

I think people are missing the point. In any business, you do not make rash firing decisions. Why? Ultimately, when a new person comes in they have to get acclimated to the situation. At this point, a new coach is not going to solve anything. Unless someone tells me that there is a new coach out there that is going to be able to get a star striker of Ghanaian heritage to come and play for the Black Stars (i.e. someone like a Ballotelli or Welbeck type), I do not see anything different happening.

        • Quincy Owusu Abeyie says:

do you think your Akwasi Appiah and his GFA would invite someone to compete with Gyan? then you don’t kno Ghana football. They dont even know why they dont want to invite Quincy. There are so many young Ghanaian born players who needs to be given the platform. The GFA always want to wait until these boys have been force by their country of birth to report at National team camps then they tried to make news by saying they want them to come play for Ghana. Do u want them to turn their back on their country of birth who called them first? Me even if Akwasi Appiah goes the FA will make sure they employ someone they can control. They are the real problem

  3. yopoo says:

Polo should shut the fuck up why should he be maintain with this poor record? All those who are supporting him are naïve they don’t knw anything about coaching.look at keshi with only 3months he achieved it big fuck you kwesi appiah.

  4. Fiifi says:

Polo should make his coaching Badges and go into real coaching! If even it’s a colt team , he would be able to “move” something!

  5. BX, NYC says:

POLO please SHUT THE FUCK UP… keep who??? Nonsense!!! Who has time for trial and error type of management.. For God sake, we’re talking about the Black Stars here,, and not zimbabwe.. SACK the coach NOWWWWWW

  6. Ajax says:

Polo u can’t decide for us Akwesi Appiah should go.

  7. gentle john says:

All we need is from GFA is to sack that incompetent Kwesi Appiah, anyone who want GFA to maintain Kwesi Appiah is enemy to the Black Stars and want Black Stars to go back to the days when we were not qualifying for World Cup,this is not a matter of foreign or local coach,we need a good coach for the Black Stars,we have to go back for Milo if we really want to qualify and do well at the World Cup.

    • Redd says:

i agree with you my brother.Dont mind the likes of polo, coach sarpong etc. They are all enjoying part of the 20,000 usd monthly booty being given to this incompetent coach. As for me i said it b4 the AFCON especially when he dropped dede that this guy will disgrace us.Not for referees this guy would have lost to cape verde.Guys, mark my words;if Appiah continues to be our coach we will be third in the WC group behind zambia and sudan. Then we shall all stay home n cheer on mediocre teams like zambia at the world cup. Then we shall all wait and see what the likes of Polo n co will come to say.

  8. Rosky says:

Fuck u polo who r u to decide for us, we shud maintain who, dat fucking and useless coach who has spoilt our style of play! Tell me which match did they play as blkstars we knw this ur tactically bankrupt A A is not a coach gfa shud sack him period. Foolish coach sarpong also talked nonsense r u a coach! If u were a coach y did olympics sack u fool

  9. cool says:

The result of our failure is that we have politized everything, including soccer.Competency is not the order of the day

  10. Bk says:

Redd,i now know where u are coming from the fact that AA dropped Dede makes him incompetent. This guy has been with the black stars for the past 5yrs and what has he achieved with them. At times consistency matters in soccer, take a look at clemence westerhoff with nigeria and sir alex ferguson of man u and lastly oscar tarbarez of uruguay they all succeeded bcos they were given some time so my bro keep the fuck up.
