Kwesi Appiah says he could have only fined Kevin-Prince Boateng had he shown remorse for insulting him
Boateng was sacked from the Ghana camp at the 2014 World Cup

Kwesi Appiah says he gave Kevin-Prince Boateng enough chance to show remorse for his disrespect before deciding to throw him out of the Ghana camp at the 2014 World Cup.

The Schalke star engaged in several acts of indiscipline during the tournament staged in Brazil with an insult to the coach during a training ground altercation topping them all.

He was thus sacked from the Black Stars camp on the morning of Ghana’s final group game against Portugal.

Ghana eventually lost the game to the Europeans 2-1 to ultimately crash out of the competition after the first round.

But former Black Stars coach Kwesi Appiah has revealed Boateng could have been let off the hook with a lesser punishment had he shown any sign of remorse for his indiscipline acts.

“And the surprising thing is that after the confrontation, I waited for two days to see whether he [Kevin-Prince Boateng] will show any signs of remorse and come to me to apologize which then I will fine him maybe $5000 or $10,000,” Appiah revealed during an interview on Metro TV’s Good Evening Ghana show.

“But he sees me and passes by without saying a word which tells me he knew exactly what he was doing.”

Boateng, 27, has since been slapped with an indefinite ban from the Black Stars – a punishment which is likely to end the international career of the ex AC Milan star who made unsavoury comments about the entire Ghanaian delegation following his sacking.
