Kwesi Appiah refuses to be drawn into Dauda controversy

Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah has dismissed claims goalkeeper Fatau Dauda should have been sent off in their 1-0 win over Mali on Thursday evening.

The Ashantigold shot-stopper was only shown the yellow card after he handled the ball outside the box with Mali captain Seydou Keita in pole position to score.

Mali coach Patrice Carteron was left livid with the decision and criticized Ivorian referee Doue Noumandiez in his post match conference.

But the Ghana trainer is refusing to be drawn into the debate and insists the referee was spot on with his decision.

“Personally when it comes to decisions of the referee, I have always had total respect for referees,” Appiah said

“I don’t believe in challenging what the referee thinks. I am saying that there was just a misunderstanding between the two players.

“We hope to talk about it when we get back to our dressing room.

The Black Stars will play Niger in their final group game on Monday.
