Kwesi Appiah has revealed he had sleepless nights in the run up to Ghana’s qualification to the quarter-finals in the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa.

The Black Stars recovered from a shaky start against DR Congo to beat Mali and Niger to advance as group B winners.

The Ghanaians surrendered a two-goal lead to draw against the Leopards, struggled to pip Mali 1-0 before seeing off less-fancied Niger 3-0 at the Nelson Mandela Bay stadium in Port Elizabeth.

The ex-Ghana international has revealed the uncertainties surrounding the Black Stars chances to progress past the group phase gave him restless nights.

“When you’re on top of affairs, hardly do I sleep for even three hours,” Appiah said

“But the good thing is making sure you achieve what you want.

“I am 100% pleased with the attitude of the players and unity in camp. Everything has been going so well. They have comported themselves so well.

“I believe that has helped the team to qualify. I will give all the praise to the players.

The Black Stars will tackle Cape Verde in the first quarter-final game at the Nelson Mandela Bay in Port Elizabeth on Saturday.
