Kwesi Appiah denies dropping Ayew for Waris, Boakye Yiadom ahead of Nations Cup

Posted On Saturday, 1st December 2012

Kwesi Appiah says Jordan Ayew remains of his big plans for the 2013 Nations Cup

By Patrick Akoto

Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah has rubbished reports he’s under pressure to drop Jordan Ayew for Majeed Waris or Richmond Boakye Yiadom for the 2013 African Cup of Nations.

Reports in the local media have claimed the ex-Ghana international is toying with the idea of leaving out the 20-year-old for his poor performances while playing for Black Stars.

Despite Ayew’s qualities on the pitch, the Marseille striker has often been criticized for his poor attitude on the field of play.

Ayew was severely criticized by fans for his poor showing in the World Cup qualifier against Zambia in Ndola and his showing against Malawi in Accra was nothing to write home about.

This according to the reports has informed the decision of the Ghana trainer to drop him, fearing it could negatively affect team spirit in camp.

He is reported to be considering replacing him with the Spartak Moscow new recruit or Richmond Boakye Yiadom or Emmanuel Clottey to partner Asamoah Gyan upfront.

But Coach Appiah has denied the reports and insists they are well wide off the mark.

“These can only treated as rumours because it’s never true that I have excluded Jordan from my final squad because I have not finalized my team,” Appiah said.

“Yes, Waris has had a good season and so has Jordan but the decision has not been made yet.

“I am in the man in charge and will not allow any person or group to force any player on me.”

Ayew has been poor in his recent outings for the Black Stars while players like Boakye-Yiadom and Clottey have been impressive in recent matches for the Black Stars.

The Black Stars coach is in the process of naming his final squad for the tournament which begins January 19 to February 10, 2013 in South Africa.

U dare not try!!!!!! he and Boakye Yiadom are the 2 strikers playing in a tougher league, unlike Gyan and warris.i keep on saying Akwasi Appiah is clueless and has no idea of what it takes to win a tourny.some of us who have been watching and following Warris has been saying, the guy is not a black stars material for now.lets wait and he what he can do with spartak moscow before jumping into any conclusion.i’ve been saying Owusu Abeyie is better as a striker than warris, boakye yiadom and even my man jordan.one thing Ghanaians are not seeing is,Gyan is not the same person we know 2-3yrs ago.so AA has to be bold and stop the imposition of any player on the team.

  2. Ghanaba says:

Sabacious real or unreal, is the Italian Second Division tougher than the Swedish top flight? What do you have against Warris? Weren’t you the one who claimed Dede shouldn’t be invited because he was playing in the French Second Division. It is true you aer mr Showoof. You criticise every coach appointed to the Black Stars. You claim to know the players who are Black Star materials. Perhaps it is about time you consider applying for the coaching job if you think you know better than the coaches. Otherwise just allow the coaches to do their job and stop this your double talk and show off.

  3. Jaja says:

Ghanaman is right. Serie B is just some level below Serie A, and way way higher level than the swedish league. Here, check out the European League rankings for yourself:

  4. kuukuphily says:

So far Jordan has not impressed me at all so let’s give the guy a chance..

  5. Cunt master flex says:

AA shd rescint’s his decision,if indeed dat is wat he’s planning to do.Jordan Ayew has been tried n tested .We ‘ve all seen his qualities, interms of experience wise he’s been der b4 n knows terrain already . Dis is not de time 4 try n error let boy enjoy his fruits of his labour plse.

  6. Ghanaman says:

Our 3 best strikers on paper are

    Gyan, Boakye and Jordan.

    • GH FUO, THINK BIG!!! says:

GHMAN. HAVE U FORGOTTEN JORDAN AYEW’S PERFORMANCE AT AFCON 2012? DONT TELL ME JORDAN HAS ALL OF A SUDDEN MATURED IN LESS THAN 1 YR. WE R GOING TO AN AFOCN TOURNAMNT. THIS IS NOT THE WCUP, BUT AFCON TOURNAMNT. ITS A WHOLE DIFFRENT BALL GAME. THEREFORE, U TAKE PLAYERS WHO HAVE HAD EXPERIENCE PLAYING IN AFRICA. YIADOM I BELIEVE WAS A REMEMBER OF THE U20? WE ALL KNOW WHAT CLOTTEY DID DURING THE CHAMPS LEAGUE. AFFUM TO ME IS THE BEST GH STRIKER IN AFRICA BESIDES CLOTTEY. BRINGING IN WARRIS AAND JORDAN WILL BE A WASTE OF JERSEYS. JORDAN IS STILL LEARNING HOW TO BE A PROLIFIC STRIKER. WARRIS WAS JUST SUCCESSFUL IN A VERY MEDIOCRE SWEDISH LEAGUE. FACT: ALL THE SWEDISH CLUBS HAVE BEEN ELIMINATED FROM THE EUROPA N CHAMPS LEAGUE TOURNAMNTS….THE FORST RD HAVENT EVEN CONCLUDED. AND WHO SAYS THE SWEDISH LEAGUE HAS ANY BITE?

  7. Ghanaba says:

Can people show civility here. There is no need to resort to abuses just because somebody has a different opinion. Only immatured and senseless people do that. Shame on you all who resort to abuses on this site.

  8. Watchdog says:

Ghanaba you are very civilise. This so-called Ghanaman and Real Sabacious appears to be speaking the same language. Not surprising. They realise they have made stupid comments. Instead their egos hurt, they resort to other means to prove they are right including using ghost identities to prove others are stupid minded enough to support their cases. For nobody in his right mind will claim a division one club in Sweden, which has made several World Cup appearances is less competitive than a Second division club in Italy. His ego hurt he than resort to uncivilised acts like insults and abuses. It is very sad that such dishonest and ego driven dudes are operating in this site.

  9. albaashar@T- Town says:

the strikers that AA should stick to is S. Gyan, Abdul M. Waris and B.Yiadom. these are clinical finishers. Jordon is good but still need to learn. Ghana has a pool of good strikers and all should be given equal chance to prove what they are made of. jordan has had his share. i rest my case.

  10. Chibesa says:

I was full of admiration for Jordan Ayew when my Chipolopolo narrowly beat the Black stars at the 2012 Afcon. As I sat at the Mwanawasa stadium four months later to watch Zambia play against a wounded Ghana in that 2014 world cup qualifier my biggest worry was how the Zambian defense would deal with Jordan Ayew. I think for a 20 year old Jordan has done very well. All what remains for him is to start scoring goals for his Country.

  11. Kwaku Boadu says:

I think AA needs four strikers for the tourney; so Gyan,Jordan,Yiadom and Waris will suffice.

  12. mojahadine says:

Why is it so important for Jordan Ayew to keep playing for Ghana BlackStars when he has not performed very well in international whilst others like Clottey and Yiadom who have done the opposite are always marginalized. Is it because of the name Ayew or what?

This is the time for Akwesi Appiah to put the hammer down and drop Jordan for his poor performances in the national team. We need players that will shine for the national team, whether they are playing in the Series A or B is irrelevant. What matters is their performance and not the league, if that is the case then we should not be playing Asamoah Gyan because he scores a lot of goals in his UAE league but can’t seem to score for the BlackStars in international matches. Can anyone tell me how many goals he had scored for the BlackStars since the last AFCON tournament? Most teams on the continent have caught up to his uncreative style of plays, he is not a threat to them anymore. In many African tournaments they have managed to cancel him out totally and rendered him persona nongrata on the field. At this present time Gyan is nothing but a place holder. The powers that be are now kissing his ass, either because he is bribing them or feeding their families in Ghana by rewarding him with a Captainship that he does not deserve.

We have others who are doing exceptionally well in their league and for the BlackStars recently, these are the players we need to field for the national team, if we don’t and we field players based on names and family associations to the national team, we will undoubtedly come back home again with our tails in between our legs.

    • Ghanaman says:

You are a REAL IDIOT!!! Gyan is our only pure experienced Center Forward! It is morons like you that cause problems for teams!!

      • mojahadine says:

Hey Ghanaman, if you are inadequate and lack intelligent analysis, then it would behoove you to not write at all. Resulting to insults in responding to someone else’s analysis makes you look like an uneducated person. This forum is for intellectuals and individuals with brains who do not insult but respectfully counter to someones comment. If you lack that ability to respectfully respond without using insulting words, then I will suggest you go back to school to re-equip yourself and comeback. We are not going anywhere we shall wait for you because we want you to change.

Your constant use of inappropriate language in your replies are making you look silly. I must say that smart individuals never insult but intelligently counter facts to show why someones points are inadequate. Just let me know if you also need to polish your writing skills.

    • Africanus says:

Has it occurred to you that Jordan’s lack of performance in Black Stars shirt is Kwasi Appiah’s failure as a manager. Good coaches know how to deploy talented players to bring the best out of them. How come Jordan deliver result at club level but not on a national level? Kwasi Appiah should re-examine how he deploys attackers.. He clearly needs a better combination up front.

  13. KOFI says:

This idiots at it again, let me tell you and our gang who insult and envy anything about Asamoah Gyan. The best for you to do is to ignore any news about Asamoah Gyan because he will continue to score and do great things as a blessed child of God. I dont understand why you keep reading every story about Asamoah Gyan. Stop reading the stories about him and leave it for those of us who appreciate the great things he has done for our beloved Country, which has earned him the Captains armband.

  14. Kweku says:

who d fuck wrote this crap.mu mu writer

  15. real sabacious says:

@Ghanaba and watchdog,u ppl are nothing but stupid lossers!WANKERS !u are only here to quote what others haven’t said.everybody knows i’ve commenting over here that, players who are playing regular football in the second tier in league infrench,England,Germany,Italy and Spain qualifiers to play the for the stars and there’s record for that.talking of john mensah(afcon 2006)Gyan(modena wc 2006)Abeyie(afcon 2008)Dede and the rest.they all prove their worth with stars when they well playing for the above div.Its only stupid ppls like u who will never reason but rather attack personality.how many times have u guys been watching warris playing?he might be good but not good for the stars for now!

  16. bornblack Germany says:

i dont understand why plp dont learn from his bro
when he play 4 ghana first cup of nation. we called him names , but he later proved us wrong his second cup of nation. so we shouldn’t concluded that Jordan had being given chance.so he cant impress this time ,he is young..they are the future of black star . how can he gain expirience if we don’t give them chance now to play with old players..may be he can be better than last Afco- like is bro…

  17. Dready says:

Dede should be dropped. He is slow and only scores for his club.Boakye Yiadom,Gyan and Quincy.Asamoah Gyan should lift up his game for real. It’s been a long time since he scored for Ghana.

  18. coconutman says:

There is only one Ayew who is qualified to play for the Black Stars and it is not Jordan.

As for Waris he only did what no Ghanaian striker has ever done in Euro soccer. We must base our decisions on facts, statistic and science not just emotion. Waris’ name was in contention for best Euro striker along with Messi, Ibra and Van Persie, I did not read about the name Jordan during that contest.

Coach Appiah can chose to leave him out of AFCON but time will tell who is the better striker just as time is confirming that Kwadwo Asamoah should have kept the #10 jersey for Ghana and not to have given it up to Dede.

    • Ghanaman says:

Moron! Both are qualified and very good. Jordan scores one goal in three in France one of the best leagues in the world!

      • GH FUO, THINK BIG!!! says:

JORDAN SHOULD NOT GO TO AFCON 2013. HE WAS AT AFCON 2012 AND HE DIDNT DO WELL. HE HASNT IMPROVED THAT MUCH SINCE THEN EVEN FOR HIS CLUB. HE SCORES SPORADICALLY FOR MARSEILLE AND IS NOT CONSISTENT. THAT IS NOT THE MARK OF A TRUE STRIKER, BUT A LUCKY STRIKER. WARRIS WAS DOING WELL, BUT IM AFRIAD HIS LEAGUE IS SIMPLY TOO COLTSLIKE ….HE TOO DOSENT DESERVE A SPOT FOR AFCON 2013. AA SHOULD LOOK FOR A GH STRIKER BASED IN GH/AFRICA. FIND A STRIKER WHO PLAYS IN AFRICA. BAFFOUR HAS DISAPPEARED SINCE HE WENT TO SOUTH AFRICA. THE NEXT PLAYER IN MIND IS AFFUM WHO PLAYS IN EGYPT. HE IS VERY GOOD AS A STRIKER. I HE IS IN FORM, AA SHOULD TAKE HIM. AFTERALL, THIS IS AN AFCON BUGA BUGA TOURNAMNT.

  19. coconutman says:

    correction: ‘choose’

  20. anokwale says:

At the end of the day, the truth of the matter is that Ghana will win a number of 1-0 games with the goals coming from the midfield. The loan striker will not score unless it is a free kick or penalty. This is the harsh reality. Let us face it.

  21. Al says:

yeah…not really expecting much from the stars if they go into this tournament with a majority of players from the last one…the last afcon was a disaster b.c the selection was terrible and if you watch their games, these dudes did not understand the concept of moving without the ball if it was screamed at them through a loudspeaker in their ears…it was so frustrating to watch…however i hope me and thousands of other Ghanaians are proven wrong and AA hopefully brings the cup to GH.(PS..if you must play Muntari please keep him away from the damn wings unlike Goran’s dumbass)

  22. et canada says:

usually i dont say much here but this time i cant help it, i have heard a lot of crap coments about dropping Jordan Ayew, first of all let me ask u all this, have u guys been watching jordan or french league 1? because if u have, u’ll be the judge. Jordan ayew has been playing excellent soccer and if any of u guys really know or have the knowledge about this game u’ll know that jordan should not be drop, he’s been playing better than his older brother dede. SO please stop the crying and support him u moron who does not know the game football NUFF SAID

    • GH FUO, THINK BIG!!! says:

ET CANADA, JORDAN IS NOT CONSISTENT AS A STRIKER. PLUS, WE R GOING TO AN AFCON TOURNAMNT, NOT WCUP. THE AFCON IS TOTALLY DIFFERENT FROM HOW EUROPEAN PLAYERS PLAY. JORDAAN’S GOALS PER GAMES HAS INCREASES A BIT, BUT STILL NOT A BRIGHT SPOT FOR AFCON 2013. HE SHOULD BE LEFT OUT. AA SHOULD FIND AN AFRICAN BASED STRIKER INSTEAD. U NEED EXPERIENCED STRIKERS PLUS YOUNG ONES. AFFUM PLAYS IN EGYPT. ADD HIM TO CLOTTEY, THE VETERAN GYAN AND THE YOUNGSTER YIADOM.

  23. selfmade says:

All that am waiting for is appiah to called quincy and should he failed to do that,i ll hate this appiah for the rest of my fucking life!!! Appiah do the right thing for once and called quincy now because is long overdue!!! If anyone has an issue with that, then fuck them too!! Viva the revolutionciooooooo!!!!

    • Ghanaman says:

Quincy does not track back or defend. That is what I believe is costing him a spot.

      • GH FUO, THINK BIG!!! says:

GHMAN, ARE U SURE? HERE A LIST OF PLAYERS WHO DONT FALL BACK TO DEFEND…GYAN, KWDWO ASAMOAH, JORDAN AYEW, DEDE AYEW, ….ABEYIE HAS BEEN A PLAYER FOR HIS GREEK CLUB FOR OVER 2 YRS. HE IS ONE OF THEIR IMPORTANT PLAYERS. THEREFORE, WAT DO U MEAN BY HE DOSENT TRACK BACK OR DEFEND?….ABEYIE IS UNWILLING TO PAY BRIBE, THAT IS WHY AA/GFA ARE RELUCTANT TO CALL HIM

  24. Kanda says:

Build cohesion in the team not constant changes of players in the team. You need team work for results to come. slow learners!!!!!!!!!!

  25. nana says:

Okay I have read all the comments and my view is this, Jordan should POSSIBLE go we all remeber the last AFCON it wasnt great for my boy, but we all saw how he grew in that tournement, the game where he came on against Tunisa and played on the left wing, basically changed the game and won us that match as he dribbled their players for fun.
Tunisa play like European team and may explain why (I don’t know) but this is the type of analysis AA should be reviwing finner details such as this, he could do damage coming of that left wing against these teams in AFCON, I don’t think he is ready to play upfront yet for Ghana he is still learning his trade there.

We have the potential to destroy teams with sheer energy and pace, we must invite quincy its a must even as an impact player he could win us matches in times of need, think about it, what team when the clock hits 60 mins or if we are in extra time would be happy to see quincy coming on to play against them, come on AA. Just tjink about what a raw Opoku Agemang done to teams with sheer pace ask Emmanuel Eboue how he felt?

Lastly on the four strikers to go im a bit undiceded but I do think there is a bias against the African based players, on merit why has clottey not been given a real chance to impress for the BS (simply not fair if you ask me) i think him and a gyan would be sutied more to playing a team like zambia.
And on the topic of Affum he should be given a game with at least 0 mins to show what he can do becasue he is killing the Egyptian league ad we all know what quality that leage hhas brought to AFCON, I am a big fan of boakye but I don’t know if its too early, and waris I want him to do well so bad but on the times I have seen hm for BS it looks like it may be to early, however with his size and low sense of gravity I do think he could seriously hurt and be suited to playing small quick teams like zambia.

Just a thought what do you folks think?

PS we are all Ghanaians lets not insult eachother, and im 18 and I know this.
