'Kwarasey confidence low'- Abubakari Damba

Posted On Tuesday, 31st January 2012

Adam Larsen Kwarasey must improve between the sticks

By Patrick Akoto

Ex-Ghana goalkeeper Abubakari Damba claims Adams Larsen Kwarasey lacks confidence but insists cannot be replaced at the Nations Cup.

The 24-year-old Norwegian born gloves man has been hugely criticized for his poor aerial ability in their opening two games at the tournament.

Kwarasey admitted he made mistakes in the games and was looking forward to working on his physical involvement in matches.

There have been calls for the immediate recall of long standing Richard Kingson into the team to offer stiff competition but Damba believes he will come good.

“Seriously the two games have exposed him as lacking confidence and I believe the goalkeepers trainer especially must work on him,” the Hearts of Oak goalkeepers’ trainer said.

“He is still young and got potential to succeed at the top level. At the moment the two other goalkeepers cannot match up to him and so we must stick with him.

“We should not unduly criticize him because it can dampen his spirit and that will not be good for us.

“We need to encourage him to check his aerial ability and work on it. That for me is where the problem is and many people identified that in our previous two games.”

The Black Stars face Guinea in a must win game at Franceville in the final group D game on Wednesday night.

What do u mean Damba? Give the guy break becos this is his first time in major tournament. Pls let him be and he will improve.

  2. Ho Ho Ho! says:

Damba is speaking from 2 sides of the same mouth. After criticizing the guy unduly, you say we should not criticize unduly not to dampen his spirit. Just shut up and watch!

    • Tico says:

The reason we keep failing in Africa is that we are so narrow-minded that can’t ever see gray areas. It is either black or white, you are either for me or against me. So now rather than see the merits of Damba’s argument, we brand him an enemy. Afterwards we then tend to say “Oh Damba was right that time.” A critical attribute of modern education is that you learn by questioning everything! In Africa that is not the case – and see where we are as a result!!!! Go Black Stars!!!

EXCUSES,EXCUSES,THE NORWEGIAN IS JUST SHIT,PLAIN N SIMPLE,WHEN THE SAME THING 2MORROW,THEY WILL SAY,HE IS TOO TIRED,HE IS TOO SHY,BUT REALLY HE IS TOO SHIT.I PRAY 4 GHANA SAKE,ADJEI GETS HIS CHANCE 2 SHINE,IT IS LONG OVERDUE

  4. pompz says:

damba should shut up.adam was doing his best against mali considering the height of the malians.he needed tp come out for the ball, although he mistimed a couple of cases that shouldnt be his sacking from the team,to me he is superb and a lucky goalie who hardly got beaten, that what makes him our number one.we are building a team to win the world cup in 2018 and this players are important.ghanaians should move forward.olele jobs is done and we appreciate it so is sarpei and mathew amoah among others.

  5. j white says:

@B4world. why do the likes of u like unnecessary criticisms? do u know what it takes to be goalie? Even experienced keepers make mistakes. Even the adjei u are talking about has problems with aerial balls. Richard Kingson used to have problems with timing and aerial balls back in CAN 2000. Even at his best Kingson was having problems with unexpected shots. I don’t know what ur problem is. You are the same people who crucified sammy adjei for a few mistakes he made b4 the 2006 world cup, despite his impressive goalkeeping performance. let this keeper be.

  6. NICDOM says:

PLEASE STOP ATACKING DAMBA. HE DID NOT MEAN ANY HARM TO THE PLAYER.

  7. yawa says:

B4 I speak I need to let the world understand that is about football not personal issues. Adam k. Has worked hard enough to be the number 1 goalie, he deserve it. Now he has concededed no goal on this tour I aprecia

  8. blessed says:

listen b4world give de dude some credit all players mk mistake n he is no exeptiona yeaa he is human too not machine lets just give de boy some tym to grow, o will olele be in the poles till 60? av u ever tot who will replace him??? probably we shall come for u wen the tym is due… lol

  9. Akwasi Floric says:

Keep your head up brother. We know that you are a good goalie… !!!

  10. MOCHACHO-USA says:

Even pros n old tymers like Olele and Damba made such mistake during their ere. The gud thing is ,he has not conceded yet and again ,he has identify his mistakes, taken it like a man and he is ready to fix it. So lets please cut him some motherfuking slack people.

  11. Chris opoku: SA. says:

Why you guys dnt leave the keeper alone, who called kingston to the national team again. People talk to much the same thing you guys were doing to Dede Ayew when called to the national team, Dede is king now why don’t you guys shut up there, what have you guys done for ghana?

  12. lalasu says:

This what Ghanaians dont want…when somebody wants to be sincere, it means he is weak…the person admits that he makes mistakes, it doesnt mean that he lacks confidence. Damba, dont kill his confidence.

  13. et canada says:

@the 9ja boy name B4world all the profound language u r using the f word and so on is that the only english ur mother thought u, u sound like u get nothing better to say except those f this f that. Learn how to speak properly and stop cursing all the time, you talk like that and no one will respect u body, idiot

  14. Jr says:

Aint em supposed 2 edit the various comments b4 they r posted?where from these insults on an international site?u for grow man!

  15. et canada says:

there goes again, sometimes i wonder why some mothers wast their time giving birth to useless people like u, u can use all the f word u want because it shows us how uneducated that u r. if u were very educated, u’ll never use those language. I’ll never use those words because i am highly educated and God fearing person and i and will tell u something. Nobody will respect u unless u change ur way of talking, u want repect, try to earn it proper way and talk as u no God my friend nuff said.

  16. Fu-Chu says:

Guys let’s leave the young fella alone…and on a serious note he has not been that bad. His sheet is clean! Allow him to grow into the concept of “Ghana” and what it all means. We must be sympathetic to the fact that this lad grew up Norwegian but wants to connect with his Ghanaian heritage. Let’s be there for him.

  17. afrikaba1 says:

Is it not Damba that made Algeria beat Ghana 2-1 in Tlemcen, Algeria, kicking us out of the 1994 World cup to in USA. He and Joe Oddoi broke our heart at that time so He better leave the young chap alone. Kwarasey’s confidence is not low and he would prove it.

  18. A col guy says:

Damba or what give us a break. Adam Kwarasey is a very good goalkeeper and he is there on merit. He came to rescue the goalkeeping department when Olele was flopping. For example Ghana vrs Brazil in England we all saw what he did to save the situation. This is the first time he has featured for the Black Stars in a African tournament and he is now coping with pressure. He is going to shine so Demba Adam needs your encourage and not bashing.

  19. rempong says:

hypocrites….real hyptocrites…i mean its funny how ghanians cheered for prince boateng and he fukd themin the ass and now this guy dedicates himself to ghana and you talk shyt..stupid africans

  20. Iyah Daniela says:

Damba dnt open ur mouth and come up with words against this guy just because ur goal keeper Sammy Adjei was not called.. Kwarasey is what we have, why dnt we give him the courage instead of lambasting.. Abufu Ns3m..

  21. SIMON BAADGHD says:

DAMBA, GO TO SLEEP AND U JUST TRAIN UR TEAMS GOALKEEPERS AND STOP THE BULL SHIT.
YOU ARE THE WORST OFFENDER WEN U STARTED UR PLAYING DAYS SO BE QUITE.
OLELE IS FINISHED AND LIFE MUST GO ON SO WE MUST ALL BACK ADAM. SAMY AGEI IS ALSO FINISHED SO STOP ALL THESE NOISE JUST TO ADVERTISE UR KEEPER. U DAMBA HAVE COMITTED A MILLION MISTAKES MORE THAN THIS SO DONT LET ME RECOUNT THEM FOR U

  22. Fifa 1,Agona Swedru says:

Rempong , you are the most stupid person for insulting every African citizen, may be your whore mother thought you not to be civilized since she gave birth to you with out knowing who your father is. It is not you fault as you were not brought up well from a civilized home

  23. Oti karikari frimpong manso says:

Kwarasey shd wake up n prove all his haiders n critics wrong.De STARS would triumph again in JESUS’ name AMEN

  24. Mojahadine says:

I don’t care what anyone says, Richard Kingston is done with the BlackStars. Kwarasey will be better as time went on, if even we do not win the AFCON. We all struggle sometimes in our lives, unfortunately for him his struggles are happening at the wrong time but we should all help him regain his confidence rather than making his situation worse.

Here is a guy who could have looked down on Africa and Ghana but sacrificed his comfort to stick with his African brothers and his father’s country. This is probably the longest time he has ever stayed on the soils of Africa and that in its self can have some physical effect on someone like him. He could have chickened out just as KPB did but he hasn’t so he deserve all the help we can give him to bring his confidence back.

He will make us all proud of him again

  25. Eliecer says:

TheIthomasscully on September 11, 2011 I kinda wanna bnachakd you square across the face. You just give off that kinda vibe
