Ghana star Kwadwo Asamoah scores his debut AFCON goal

Posted On Sunday, 20th January 2013

Kwadwo Asamoah scored his first Nations Cup goal on Sunday

Juventus influential midfielder Kwadwo Asamoah scored his first Africa Cup of Nations on Sunday in Ghana’s 2-2 draw with DR Congo on Sunday.

The makeshift left-back headed in Mubarak Wakaso’s teasing corner five minutes after the interval to give Ghana a 2-0 lead.

The Juventus ace had already earned the plaudits for creating Ghana’s opener when the laid a carpet cross for Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu to slide in after 39 minutes.’
Asamoah made his debut in the tournament in the 2008 finals played on home soil and there were big expectations on him given his huge talent.
He excelled at the 2010 edition as an offensive midfielder but did not get to score even though he created lots of scoring chances.
Asamoah could not also score at the previous edition of the tournament last year in Gabon and Equatorial Guinea.
The goal he scored on Sunday can encourage him to go on and score more in subsequent tournaments.

Good show KASA, you played very well though you were played out of position. Wakaso is the real deal, that chap has got a very powerful left foot. He together with KASA & Badu were my best players for the team.

    • GH FUO, THINK BIG!!! says:

      GHANA VS CONGO DR
SOMETIMES, I DONT KNOW WAT AA IS THINKING
PLAY THE 5 3 2 FORMATION. PLAY BREAK N PASS BALL. 2/3 TOUCHES ONLY FOR EVERY PLAYER…AT ALL TIMES
IN THE FIRST HALF, U COULD VISIBLY SEE THAT GYAN NEEDS HELP. HE NEEDS SOMEONE TO DO GIVE N GO!
STRIKERS/attackers win you a match, DEFENDERS win you a tournament.
THE MIDFIELD IS NON EXISTENT, AND DEREK IS NOT DISCIPLINED. DEREK DOSENT FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS. HE IS USELESS!
THE INSTRUCTIONS FOR DEREK ARE VERY SIMPLE…
      A. BREAK/STOP ATTACKING ADVANCES OF OPPONENTS INTO THE GH HALF
      B. RELEASE THE BALL TO THE WINGERS OR THE $TRIKERS AND REST. I REPEAT, NO BACK PASSES!
THIS ISNT WAT DEREK WAS DOING. HE WAS CAUGHT TRYING TO BE A STAR ON THE FIELD. HE RARELY TRIES TO STOP OPPONENTS ATTACKS INTO THE GH HALF.
ON THE OCASSION THAT HE DOES, DEREK IS SEEN HOLDING UNTO THE BALL LIKE HE THINKS HE IS MARADONNA OR MESSI. IDIOT, JUST WIN THE BALL AND PASS IT
I TOLD U TO LEAVE DEREK ALONE. NOW U SEE?

I DONT SEE ANY URGENCY, AND SERIOUNESS WITH THE TEAM, YET
THEY R NOT URGENT IN FORCING THE ISSUE. THE BEST PLAYERS THUS FAR HAS BEEN BADU, WAKASSO, AKAMINKO, FATAU
ASAMOAH IS LEAKING THE LEFT BACK AT TIMES. OUR 4 N 5 PLAYERS NEED TO BE AWAKE AT ALL TIMES IN THE 18YARD BOX WHEN THE OPPONRNTS ARE ATTACKING
AA IS NOW PAYING THE PRICE FOR NOT CALLING NATURAL LEFT BACKS LIKE DAVID ADDY AND NANA ASARE
WHY DONT U USE KISSI BOATENG, HUH? U KNOW KISSI BOATENG IS NOT UP TO STANDARD SO WHY DID U EVEN CALL HIM FOR THIS TOURNAMNT?
THE TEAM IS NOT DISCIPLINED. LOOK AT THE NUMBER OF CARDS GH RECEIVED?
HW3, AFFUL CANT PLAY THE 3. THE CONGO DR PLAYERS ARE RUNNING PAST HIM LIKE WATER.
START AFFUL ON THE 2 AND SIT DOWN PAINSTIL TILL THE LATTER STAGES OF THE SECOND HALD. PAINSTIL DID A GOOD JOB AT HOLDING THE RIGHT BACK SPOT.
AA BETTER PUT WAKASSO N KISSI BOATENG AT THE LEFT BACK. MOVE KASA TO ATTACKIN MIDFIELDER.
I DONT UNDERSTAND WHY BOYE WAS ALLOWED TO START. AA, SHOULD USE AKAMINKO AND AWAL AS STARTERS INSTEAD
THIS IS A WOEFUL PERFORMANCE. IM DISAPPOINTED. WE CANT GO ANYWHERE IS OUR DEFENCE MAKES CARELESS MISTAKES LIKE THIS..TWEAAAA!
STRIKERS/attackers win you a match, DEFENDERS win you a tournament.
PLAY THE 5 3 2 FORMATION. PLAY BREAK N PASS BALL. 2/3 TOUCHES ONLY…AT ALL TIMES
GYAN IS A FOOLISH STRIKER. HE HAS NO KILLER INSTINCT INFRONT OF THE NET. ANY STRIKER WHO CANT SMELL BLOOD INFRONT
OF THE NET IS USELESS, IMPOTENT STRIKER!

WHY ARE THE NAMES ON THESE FOOLISH TYE N DYE PUMA JERSEYS IN SMALL CAPS. I WANT TO KNOW WHY? GFA, DID PUMA GIVE US A DISCOUNT TO HVE
OUR NAMES IN SMALL LETTERS OR NOT? ATROCIOUS JERSEYS FROM PUMA. AFCON HAS TURNED INTO A PUMA FASHION SHOWCASE….FOOLISH GFA!
NYANTAKYI NEEDS BINOCULARS NOT GLASSES, BCOS HE STILL CANT SEE SHIT!

  2. Viper says:

We have depended on Gyan as the lone striker for far too long and it isn’t working, we need to revert to 442 or at least with 2 strikers, how does he miss a one on one? Moreover we have to keep possession of the ball and close out games. there is no margin for error against Mali.DRC on the other hand did really did well, I am very disappointed by the results.

  3. Union Leader says:

Good game KA! But I still cannot understand why on earth AA will use his real playmaker on the left side of defence ? We cannot afford to copy blindly. I wouldn’t mind if Dede were in the team. We all saw how the inexperience of Atsu shown today. He was clueless. He would not even fall back to help the defence when he lost possession. Don’t get me wrong,Atsu is fine player butat this stage he’s woefully inexperience to make any impact. In future matches Asamoah should be dictating the play either from the middle or left side of attack. You guys can still do this. Next game is a must win!we cannot afford any slip ups. AA must rethink his strategy for the next game(if only he has a Plan B). Go Black Stars,Go !!!

  4. Coconutman says:

Kwadwo Asamoah assisted with the first goal and scored the second, he belongs at the left half position and Harrison Aful should be on the left full back position. Jerry Akaminko should be on the right full back and John Painsil should be on the bench. John kept sending the long ball to the opposition instead of using his right half Adomah.

Milo would have protected that two goal lead and that is what Coach Appiah should do when we have a lead. Sub in defensive minded players to protect a huge lead stop trying to Coach 1960′s soccer, attacking for 90 minutes is a thing of the past. The Serbians thought you a lot about winning ugly why don’t you just do that and get us the cup?

Christian Atsu is the real deal and should not have been the first player to have been subbed out. Atsu never got the passes he needed from his team-mates to be truly effective. Derek Boateng should have been the first to go. Derek kept falling down and he was slow to recover to help defend the midfield. He did make some brilliant plays and should definitely be incorporated into the line up.
