Kwadwo Asamoah can't be effective at left-back - Grusah

Alhaji Grusah believes Kwadwo Asamoah cannot succeed as a left-back

Bank-roller of Kumasi-based Ghanaian Premier League side Alhaji Grusah believes Kwadwo Asamoah is not cast for Ghana’s left-back role.

The Juventus star was assigned to the left side of defence in Ghana’s Group B opener with DR Congo which ended two-all at the Port Elizabeth Bay Stadium last Sunday.

Concerns have been raised about the performance of the 24-year-old in his unfamiliar role as he failed to excel in the role.

Ahead of the Black Stars’ clash with Mali at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Thursday, Grusah – an outspoken football administrator in Ghana, believes the former Udinese playmaker is forcing to succeed in his new role.

“If Kwadwo Asamoah says he can play the left-back role then he is lying. He can’t play that role,” he told Accra-based Asempa FM.

However, he could be named in the same position by Ghana coach James Kwesi Appiah for the must-win clash with Mali.

Leave the coach alone….spending money is not the same as coaching

gruzah is right. kasa cant play leftback. if he could, the dr congo players wouldnt be having a field day on the left hand side. let kasa play the 11. atsu must COME OFF THE BENCH N PLAY 7. THESE 2 MUST OVERLAP. KASA WILL BE MORE EFFECTIVE ON THE LEFT FLANKS WITH SPEED, CROSSES, PASSES N SHOTS ON GOAL

      DAUDA, 2.AFFUL, 3.WAKASSO, 4.MENSAH, 5.AWAL, 6.AKAMINKO, 7.ATSU, 8.BADU, 9.RABIU, 10.CLOTTEY 11. KASA…..
DONT START GYAN. LET HIM OBSERVE LIKE GEDDO. BRING GYAN FROM THE BENCH TO USE HIS EXPERIENCE TO FEND OFF MALIAN DEFENDERS.
      GIVE THE CAPTAIN TO BADU.

  2. Viper says:

Mali’s strength is their midfield, therefore if we don’t take hold of the midfield and keep possession of the ball,we might as well kiss our AFCON dream good bye.

Please AA serve us from digrace!!

  4. Chu says:

Let us stop all these leftback nonsense because asamoah never had any cover from Atsu

    • nana says:

chu bro its not about that, its the fact that our most gifted and creative player is far back at left back always itching to go foward yet is forced to defend. IImagine he is given a midfeld role he will do even more damage than he already did against congo. Plus wat viper said was right, mali’s strenght is in midfild hence we need him there to win the battle against kieta, diakite and sissoko.

  5. African Consciousness says:

K Asamoah was the left back on paper but in reality he was up at the left half attacking and playing Atsu’s position and leaving Akaminko to hold the bag. The Coach must bring in Kissi Boateng or Mohammed Awal to play the left back and move K Asamoah to his natural left half and Atsu to play inside left. Unfortunately our 2 stars are both left footed and the Coach wants to employ both of them on the left in a 4-2-3-1 formation and it is not working. If K Asamoah had the speed of Roberto Carlos formally of Brazil then it would work. K Asamoah will have to attack from the left and as soon as the ball is lost sprint all the way back to the left back position or leave a big hole there. The only other option is if Annan starts he is fast and disciplined enough to provide cover on defense to allow K Asamoah time to recover then the Coaches strategy of employing K Asamoah on left full back might work. The risk there is that you leave Annan’s position open unless Atsu drops back and covers for Annan until K Asamoah recovers. It was good to see Badu score but he should stay in his defensive Midfield position against Mali otherwise we will be in trouble on the counter from a good and disciplined team like Mali.

With Boakye injured is the Coach going to employ the services of Clottey? This guy is good but needs some confidence. He should definitely be given some playing time against lowly Niger to see if he gets his confidence back. Solomon Asante should either start or come in for Adomah at some point in tomorrow’s game. We have these wonderful talented players and the Coach must make room for them, if you cap them you must play them.

  6. GH FUO, THINK BIG!!! says:

AFRICAN…WAKASSO PLAYED LEFT BACK AT THE YOUTH LEVEL. AT HIS CLUB IN SPAIN, HE PLAYS LEFT MIDFIELD. THEREFORE, INSERT WAKASSO OR KISSI AT THE 3. HAVE U EVER SEEN AWAL PLAY BEFORE? SO WHY THEN DO U WANT AWAL TO PLAY LEFT BACK? WABODAM? AWAL IS A CENTRAL DEFENDER/5…HE MUST STARTWITH JONATHAN MENSAH…I DO HOWEVER AGREE WITH UR OPINIONS ABOUT ATSU. HOWEVER, ALLOW ATSU TO PLAY ON THE RIGHT WING. I HAVE SEEN ATSU PLAY FOR HIS PORTUGUESE CLUB ON THE RIGHT AND HE IS VERY FAST OVER THERE. LET HIM COME IN AS A SUB FOR ADOMAH ON THE RIGH WING/7…RABIU AND AKAMINKO CAN PLAY THE 6. CLOTTEY MUST START IN THIS GAME AGAINST MALI AHEAD OF GYAN. SOLO ASNATE N KISSI WILL BE USED AGAINST NIGER, NOT IN THIS GAME…
