Kwadwo Asamoah backs Kwesi Appiah to succeed as Black Stars coach

Ghana midfielder Kwadwo Asamoah has hailed the appointment of Kwasi Appiah as coach of the Black Stars.

Appiah was handed permanent charge of the team by the Ghana FA after three weeks of head hunting to replace Goran Stevanovic.

The Serbian was dismissed following Ghana’s failure to win the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations.

Appiah who has been assistant coach of the Black Stars since 2008 was given temporary charge of the team following Stevanovic’s departure.

But the Ghana FA after an Executive Committee meeting on Monday confirmed him as the substantive.

And Asamoah who is a key member of the team says the new man will get all the support needed for him to succeed.

“Congrats to Kwesi Appiah. He is a great coach so I’m sure he will do well for Ghana. We will all support him,” the Udinese player tweeted.

Appiah, who guided the national Under-23 team of local players to gold at last year’s All Africa Games in Maputo, Mozambique will meet the Executive Committee on Tuesday to seal a reported two-year deal.

His first major assignment will be a 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Lesotho in June.
