Kwadwo Asamoah admits DR Congo 'wake-up call'

Kwadwo Asamoah says the Black Stars 2-2 draw against DR Congo should serve as a wake-up call ahead of the remaining two matches in the group.

The West African giants surrendered a two-goal lead to draw 2-2 against the Leopards on Sunday night at the Nelson Mandela Bay stadium in Port Elizabeth.

The Black Stars, touted as one of the huge favourites for the title, failed to live up to their pre-match hype with a performance that left coach Kwesi Appiah scratching his head for answers.

The team faces old foes Mali in a must-win game on Thursday and the Juventus star has admitted the slip against Congo should serve as guiding principle going into the game against the Eagles.

“Our people expect us to bring the cup back home. We have accepted that challenged and working towards that,” Asamoah said

“But we all saw what happened against DR Congo. It tells you that anything can happen in football.

“For us as players, the game against the Congolese will serve as a wake-up call for us.

“The two other teams in our group are going to be tough but we’ll do our best to win.”

Asamoah scored his first Cup of Nations goal after he netted the second in the 2-2 draw.
