Kotoko train under police protection

Ghanaian giants Asante Kotoko last Wednesday had their training amid tight security provided by armed police officers.

Police officers were seen hovering around the Adarko Jarchie training grounds of the Porcupine Warriors.

This development, which was hitherto unheard of in the club’s history, has sent shockwaves among fans of Kotoko.

Daily Guide Sports learnt Kotoko management asked the police officers to provide security at the training grounds.

Kotoko took that weird action because they feared that some hoodlums might attack defender Michael Ofosu Appiah nicknamed ‘Escoba.’

On Tuesday, Ofosu Appiah allegedly traded punches after training with a fan who had accused him of being an 'Akpeteshie' (local gin) addict.

The Kotoko stopper who could not contain the taunts of the fan anymore, decided to trade punches with him.

The soccer fan suffered some bruises on the head as he bled profusely after the brawl with Ofosu Appiah.

Initially speculation was rife that Ofosu Appiah hit the head of the fan with a stone, but the Kotoko stopper has denied it.

The said soccer fan, before leaving the Adarkwa Jaachie training grounds, threatened to take revenge on Ofosu Appiah.

As a precautionary measure, Kotoko management engaged the services of the police officers to provide protection for the squad.
