Ahmed Toure claims to have signed for Athletic FC

By Ameenu Shardow

Asante Kotoko striker Ahmed Toure claims to have signed with Ivorian club Athletic FC Adjame.

The 24-year-old signs with the second tier club despite having an existing contract with the Ghanaian champions.

Toure however says a strange Fifa law gives him the power to sign for ‘an amateur club’ and has already served notice to the relevant bodies to ratify the move.

“I have signed for Athletic in my country (Ivory Coast) and therefore I am not coming to Ghana,” he told GHANAsoccernet.com.

“A Fifa law allows me to sign for an amateur club not a professional side.

“I have written to the Ghan FA and Kotoko over this issue and so if Kotoko fails to respond in 10-days, my move will be certified.”

Toure who won the Ghana league’s MVP award in the 2010/11 season has fallen out of favour with officials of Kotoko after serving a suspension for overstaying a compassionate leave.

The date of expiration of is existing contract with the Kumasi-based club is currently contested by both parties.

Athletic FC Adjame is reportedly the the club owned by the Ivorian FA chief Jacques Anouma.
