Champions Asante Kotoko needed a late Michael Akuffu goal to dispatch bottom side Real Tamale United 2-1 in their outstanding league match played on Saturday.
Kotoko opened the scoring through striker Seidu Bancey after 14 minutes at the Len Clay Stadium.
After the break, RTU drew level from the spot in the 63rd minute courtesy Mohammed Aminu.
He expertly delivered the spot kick by sending goalkeeper Isaac Amoako the wrong way.
Kotoko coach Mas-Ud Dramani threw on midfielder Akuffu who scored in the 86th minute to their title defence back on track.
The victory brings relief to the side who lost another delayed fixture against King Faisal in midweek.
Kotoko are now fourth on the Ghana Premier League table; three points behind leaders Medeama.
