Kotoko, Hearts chase FA cup success

Posted On Friday, 4th May 2012

Can Kotoko win the double this season?

By Patrick Akoto

With no Premier League action this weekend, the 1/16h stage of the MTN FA cup will take centre stage with mouth-watering encounters.

Asante Kotoko can now set their attention on winning the double when they play against second-tier Amidaus FC at the Tema stadium on Saturday.

After clinching the top-flight league title with three games to spare, the Porcupine Warriors can cap an incredible season if they lift the cup they lost to Nania FC last season.

Can Hearts clinch the FA cup after losing out on the Premier League?

Kotoko rivals Hearts of Oak should be the clear favourite when they entertain second division side Elmina Sharks at the Accra Sports stadium.

The FA cup presents the only chance for the Phobians to win silverware this season and will therefore guard against complacency after Dunkwa United gave them a huge scare at the same venue last week.

New Edubiase will welcome struggling Heart of Lions at home in an all Premier League affair with AshantiGold and All Stars battling each other at the Obuasi Len Clay stadium.

Elsewhere, Liberty Professionals will be aiming for revenge when they welcome Tema Youth to the Sly Tetteh Memorial stadium on Monday.

Youth beat the capital-based side 1-0 in the Ghana Premier League last Wednesday to boost their survival chances in the elite division.

But the cup competition will surely provided a different platform for both sides as they eye progression into the quarter-final stage.

But Danbort FC will set the 16th stage rolling with a home game against Sporting Mirren on Friday May 4.

@city well done. This FA cup is between Hearts and kotoko. Good rivalry is good for ghana football.

  3. Casio says:

The TRUTH is taken the league or FA cups, Hearts had NEVER been a match for Kotoko until the mid-1990′s till now.

For example hearts have won the league 20 times. 9 of those, ie, 45% was between 1996 till now.

Kotoko have won the league 22 times [including this year] and ONLY THREE, yes ONLY 3!, ie only 13%!! from 1996 until now INCLUDING THIS YEAR’S LEAGUE!!.

So my phobia brother’s your team prior to the mid 1990′s was NO MATCH for Kotoko! You owe a lot to Jones Atuquafio and the folks that made hearts what is it today.

    Goodday!

dude, this is not my own statistics ok? these are open facts. To answer your question, it depends on your own mental model and unfortunately I am not ready to write an easy here on to answer your question. In short You hearts fans will claim ascendancy and Kotoko fans will claim descendancy…. answer as u like
