Kotoko denied elusive win at the death

Kofi Nti-Boakye's converted spot kick not enough for Kotoko against Lions

Asante Kotoko are still in search of their first win of the season after drawing 1-1 with Heart of Lions on Sunday.

Two very contentious penalties awarded each side ensured both teams shared the spoils at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.
Kotoko failed to capitalize on the numerous goal scoring opportunities created in the first half with new signing Seidu Bancey the main culprit.
It was coach Mas-Ud Dramani’s first official game in charge of Kotoko and his strikers in particular were very disappointing on the day.
The former Ghana U-17 women’s team coach just couldn’t stomach the disappointment anymore and effected his first change in the 39th minute – bringing on Nafiu Idrissu for the profligate Bancey.
Lions hardly threatened – being content with sitting back and soaking all the pressure but provided very little on the break.
This gave Kotoko the ammunition to boss the game throughout the first half but had nothing to show for at the end of the first 45 minutes.
Kotoko resumed the second half from where they left off in the first before an impressive crowd at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.
The Lions defence were however not budging – defending gallantly much to the approval of their coach and former Asante Kotoko assistant trainer Sarfo Castro.
Kotoko however got their lucky break when referee Ibrahim Sumaila awarded a contentious penalty kick with eight minutes left to play after Nafiu Idrissu was adjudged to have been fouled in an aerial
challenge.
Striker Kofi Nti-Boakye stepped up to coolly slot home – sending the goalkeeper to the wrong direction to breathe a massive sigh of relief from Kotoko’s bench and more importantly the fans.
Lions who had defended very well all game long just had nothing to offer despite getting in on the action late on.
Substitute Ransford Osei missed a glorious chance in added-on time to make the points safe for Kotoko who were punished immediately at the other end with another soft penalty awarded to Lions.

Nana Agyiri elected himself to take and planted the ball well beyond goalkeeper Soulama Abdoulaye to draw level much to the disappointment of Kotoko fans.

  2. GH FUO, THINK BIG!!! says:

    QUALITY OF PREMIER LEAGUE
I HAVE SAID THIS BEFORE AND WILL SAY IT AGAIN. NYANTAKYI NEEDS TO DO SMTHING ABOUT THE PLAYER EXODUS WE R HAVING IN GH. IT IS GETTING OUT OF HAND
. CLEARLY, CLUBS LIKE KOTOKO, HEARTS, ASHGOLD, NEW EDUBIASE CANT COMPETE MONEYWISE WITH OTHER CLUBS IN AFRICA. THIS ALONE PUTS GH CLUBS AT A
DISADVANTAGE. ANYOE WHO THINKS KOTOKO HAVE THE TALENT TO GO TO EVEN THE SEMIS IN THE CHAMPIONS LEAGUE IS BRAIN DEAD. KOTOKO HAS SOLD MOST OF
THEIR TOP PLAYERS. THESE ARE PLAYERS THE CLUB NEEDS TO MAKE NOISE IN AFRICA. PLAYERS WHO HAVE EXPERIENCE AND HAVE PLAYED TOGETHER FOR A WHILE.
GFA MUST INSTITUTE A 3 YR LEAGUE MINIMUM BEFORE ANY PLAYER IS ELIGIBLE TO BE SOLD OUTSIDE GH. IT WILL ENSURE THAT THESE GH PLAYERS ARE MATURE
BEFORE THEY R SOLD. IT WILL ALSO PROVIDE QUALITY PLAYERS FOR OUR LEAGUE, WHICH WILL MAKE IT MORE EXCITING AND COMPETITIVE. PLUS CLUBS WILL HAVE
ACCESS TO THEIR PLAYERS FOR LEAGUE TITLES, CHAMPIONS LEAGUE TROPHIES. IF GFA FAILS TO DO SO, NO GH CLUB WILL PUT ITSELF IN A HEALTHY POSITION
TO WIN ANYTHING IN AFRICA. I MEAN, HOW DO U COMPETE WITH CLUBS IN S AFRICA, CONGO, EGYPT WHEN THEY R BUYING YOUR BEST PLAYERS? THINK!

  3. Dr Who says:

People are running these clubs from their pockets so halting player exodus will affect them greatly.2ndly,players & managers of players will charge on you if you deny them the opportunity to seek greener pastures

    • GH FUO, THINK BIG!!! says:

DR. WHO. SUCCESS ISNT EASY. ONE PERSON MAY CHOOSE TO GO OUT FOR LOANS WITH HEAVY INTEREST. TOMORROW, U SEE THEM IN A RANGE ROVER BALLING. THE OTHER GUY WILL PROLLY BE TAKING TROTRO AND EATING GARI N BEANS. BUT GUESS WHAT. AFTER THE DUST CLEARS, WE KNOW WHO MADE THE RIGHT DECISION. SUCCESS ISNT EASY. IF IT WERE, WE WOULD ALL BE RICH. YOU HAVE TO SACRIFICE TO GET WAT YOU WANT. YOUR RESPONSE SEEMS TO BE LIKE A PERSON WHO ISNT READY TO SACRIFICE. TAKE THE EASY WAY OUT AND SELL PLAYERS. HAS IT OCCERRED TO YOU TO THINK HOW MUCH MAZEMBE, AND OTHERS CAN SELL THESE GH PLAYERS FOR OR HOW MUCH MONEY THEY CAN GET FOR BUYING GH PLAYERS? THINK ABOUT THAT. LLOK AT AFFUL FOR INSTANCE. HE HAS HELPED ESPERANCE WITH A TROPHY. THEY HAVE QUALIFIED AGAIN. AFFUL HAS PROLLY BEEN AT ESPERANCE FOR 2 YRS IN A YR OR 2 HIS PRICE WILL GO THRU THE ROOF. U WILL SEE HOW ESPERANCE WILL SELL HIM FOR? IF ESPERANCE IS ABLE TO WIN THE TROPHY AGAIN. EUROPEAN SCOUTS WILL BE ASKING FOR AFFUL AND THEY WILL PAY FOR HIM. WHY U ASK? WELL, LOOK AT THE TROPHIES, LOOK AT THE GOALS. LOOM AT HOW LONG HE HAS PLAYED WITH THE CLUB? IN GH, WE DONT THINK LONGEVITY. WE THINK NOW NOW NOW….THATS DUMB!

  4. GH FUO, THINK BIG!!! says:

dr. who..these are all excuses. WAT U HAVE MENTIONED ARE EXCUSES. ALL OVER THE WORLD, IT IS WEALTHY BUSINESS PPL WHO OWN CLUBS. IN GH, IT IS NOT THE THE SAME. INFACT, IN GH PPL ESTABLISH CLUBS JUST TO MAKE MONEY. WHY IS DAT? NO CLUB SHOULD EXIST WITHOUT HEALTH INSURANCE, RETIREMNT PACKAGES FOR ITS STAFF AND PLAYERS. YET, PLB AND GFA SIT THERE IDLE WHILE SUCH FOOLISHNES TAKES PLACE. HOW CAN A CLUB LIKE TEMA YOUTH EXIST AND BE INDEPENDENT WHEN THE CLUB HAS NO STADIUM, NO WAY OF BRINGING IN REVENUE. A CLUB CAN NOT SURVIVE STRICTLY ON PLAYER TRANSFERS, LOANS OR SALES. ITS MUCH BIGGER THAN THAT. THE PROBLEM OF MISMANAGEMENT STARTS FROM THE TOP, FROM THE GH FOOLS ASSOCIATION AND TRICKLES ALL THE WAY DOWN TO THE CLUBS. FOR STARTERS, HOW MANY CLUBS HAVE THEIR OWN STADIUM IN GH? HOW MUCH DOES IT TAKE TO BUY LAND. GET CARPENTERS AND MASONS TO BUILD SEATS AND A WALL SO U CAN CHARGE PPL TO COME AND WATCH GAMES? HOW MUCH DOES IT TAKE TO BUILD A CAR PARK, FOOD STANDS/CONCESSIONS AND PREVENT PPL FROM COMING TO THE STADIUM WITH FOOD SO YOU CAN MAKE MONEY. HOW MANY STADIUMS SELL CLUB PARAPHENALIA? U SEE THIS IS THE PROBLE. IM SICK AND TIRED OF THIS ONE TRACK MIND FOOLSIHNESS. U CANT BASE YOUR ENTIRE REVENUE ON SELLING PLAYERS. THATS JUST DUMB. WE HAVE TONS AND TONS OF CLUBS ALL OVER THE GLOBE. WE CAN LEARN A THING OR TWO FROM THE SUCCESSFUL ONES, IM SURE. IF YOU ARE RUNNING YOUR CLUB FROM YOUR POCKET AS U SAY, HAND TO MOUF. THEN U DONT DESRVE TO OWN THE CLUB. THE CLUB MUST BE SOLD OR RELINQUISHED. IT BECOMES A LIABILITY.

DR. I DONT CARE. HALT THE EXODUS BCOS IT IS NOT HELPING US AS A NATION. IF IT IS ALLOWED TO CONTINUE, NOTHING WILL CHANGE. THIS HAND TO MOUF BUSINESS WILL CONTINUE TO HAPPEN. WE MUST HOLD GFA AND THESE CLUB OWNERS TO A HIGHER STANDARD. THE SAME WAY CLUB OWNERS IN SOUTH AFRICA, NROTH AFRICA AND EUROPE ARE HELD TO A HIGHER STANDARD BY THEIR RESPECTIVE ASSOCIATIONS. LOOK, IF THIS PLAYER EXODUS CONTINUES, NO GH CLUB WILL EVER WIN A CHAMPS LEAGUE TROPHY. MARK IT ANYWHERE…..AH, BCOS OF MONEY, OUR BETTER PLAYRS ARE GOING TO PLACES LIKE CYPRUS, THAILAND, VIETNAM, INDIA FOR WAT? IF WE PULL OUR BOOTS AND HOLD THESE CLUB OPWNERS TO A HIGHER STANDARD IN TERMS OF OWNING A STADIUM, CONTRACTS, INSURANCE ETC…PLAYERS WILL STAY AT HOME AND WE WILL KEEP OUR QUALITY PLAYERS AT HOME AND BUILD OUR LEAGUE. A GOOD LEAGUE, WILL AUTOMATICALLY TRANSLATE TO BETTER CLUBS, NATIONAL TEAMS, TROPHIES. AT THIS RATE, WE R TREATING OUR PLAYERS JUST LIKE OUR NATURAL RESOURCES. SHIP THEM OUT FOR THEM TO BE TURNED INTO FINISHED PRODUCTS

  5. Punch says:

As a Zambian I watched the game. I was preety impressed with the Ugandan, Joseph Ochaya and Micheal Annaba played well together with Rainsford Osei. It was a good match. The penalty awarded to Hearts was fair.
