Asante Kotoko competing on three fronts

By Ameenu Shardow

Asante Kotoko chairman Dr K.K Sarpong believes his side has enough within to compete on all fronts this season.

The Ghanaian champions aside defending their Premier League crown this season are also competing in the FA Cup and the CAF Champions League.

The team that is just off the heel of an impressive start in the Champions League will resume their title defence in the top flight four days after playing in the FA Cup competition.

Many have raised concerns over the adverse effect playing in three major competitions could have on the squad over the course of a long season.

But Dr Sarpong is confident the squad has enough quality to manage the enormous effect that comes with competing on three fronts.

“We know we have a big task especially when playing in both the league and the Champions League,” he told Kumasi-based Angel FM.

“It puts a lot of pressure on you. But I think we have a formidable side that can always make changes and compete.

“On Wednesday we play in the FA Cup so between the reserve side and the first team we will raise a team.

“We then face Liberty Professionals in the league on Sunday and we all know the quality of Liberty – they are one of the big teams in the country in terms of scientific soccer.

“But our aim is to win to improve our standings and maybe move to second in the league.

“With all the preparations, expectations and psychological balance, I believe we are well equipped to sail through.”

Kotoko are currently third in the Ghanaian top flight – four points adrift leaders Medeama at the start of the second half of the season.

I’M AMAZED HOW DR K.K. SARPONG STILL BELIEVES THIS KOTOKO SQUAD IS WORTHY OF COMPETING IN THE CAF CHAMPIONS LEAGUE? UNTIL YOU STOP SELLING EVERY QUALITY PLAYER THAT YOU ACQUIRE TO OUR COMPETITORS, KOTOKO WILL FOREVER REMAIN A STRUGGLING SIDE IN BOTH LOCAL AND INTERNATIONAL LEAGUES.PLEASE WAKE UP AND FACE REALITY AND STOP BELITTLING THE INTELLIGENCE OF THE BLEEDING TEEMING PORCUPINE WARRIORS FANS. WHAT A SHAME!
