Kotoko boss promises ‘exciting’ times for fans

Exciting times await Kotoko fans this season

By Patrick Akoto

Kotoko Executive Board Chairman Dr Kofi Kodua Sarpong is promising ‘exciting’ times for their fans in the upcoming season.

Kotoko begin their title defence with a tricky game against promoted Amidaus Professionals at the Baba Yara stadium on Sunday October 7.

The Kumasi-based are under pressure to begin their campaign on a positive note after difficulties in previous attempts.

They have failed to win their opening Premier League matches for the past four years  and are desperate to turn things around this term.

The champions struggled for maximum points against Tema Youth, King Faisal, Great Olympics and defunct Kessben FC in their opening fixtures since 2008.

But the two-time African champions are confident they can translate their dominant pre-season form into the new campaign- starting with a resounding victory against the Harbour-based side.

“I want to assure the supporters that we’re going to have an exciting league and so they should come to the stadium in their numbers,” Dr Sarpong told Kumasi-based Fox FM

“The journey begins this Sunday when we play Amidaus. I can promise them (fans) of exciting times this season.

“We know our pedigree as the biggest and champion club of Ghana. The other teams will come at us with a different mentality, but we’ll be ready for them.

“We need the continuous support of our darling and teeming fans. Without them we cannot do anything significant.”

Kotoko must fend competition from rivals Hearts, Berekum Chelsea, Ashantigold and Medeama to retain their crown.
