Asante Kotoko qualified for their third MTN FA Cup final in four seasons after a 2-0 win over city-rivals King Faisal on Sunday.

A pair of first half goals from Abdul Aziz Yusif and lead striker Siedu Bansey ensured Kotoko kept their double dream alive.

Faisal probably played better than the score line suggested made early incursions in the first 15 minutes of the match.

But what rocked their boat was poor defending as their quest for the opener left their back opened to attacks.

Kotoko decided to pack men in midfield and soaked the pressure and hit back on the break.

After 23, the Porcupine Warriors were successful and opened the scoring through Yusif, who was unmarked inside the box to head home Prince Baffoe’s sweet cross.

Bansey began the build up and threaded a ball to Baffoe, who had peeled to the right before sending in the cross.

Faisal did not give up and mounting a search for the leveller but Kotoko responded with the same war tactic and doubled the lead on the counter in the 37th minute.

Jordan Opoku broke away and found himself inside the box but his goal bound shot took a deflection and dropped in front of Bansey who finished off powerfully from 12 yards.

Faisal kept on attacking and could have reduced the deficit or if not exaggerating pushed the game into extra-time but some poor shooting upfront robbed them.

They are out of the race to win the Cup competition and face a difficult assignment to stay in the Ghana top-flight as they languish in the relegation zone with two matches to the end of the season.

Kotoko will now face Inter Allies in the final at the Accra Sports Stadium on 8 June.
