Asante Kotoko assistant coach Michael Osei feels let down by the number of home-based players in Kwesi Appiahââ¬â¢s provisional 26-man squad for the 2014 FIFA World Cup.
Appiah named only Aduana Stars goalkeeper Stephen Adams in the squad to prepare for the tournament starting Tuesday in Accra.
Kotoko defender Kwabena Adusei made the four-man standby list but that is not enough according to the former striker Osei.
ââ¬ÅDefinitely any local coach, who gets disappointed, has a justification, because if our domestic league couldnââ¬â¢t produce between two and four players for the World Cup, then it raises many questions. No one can say that the league doesnââ¬â¢t have material that could have made the list,â⬠he told Kumasi-based Jem FM.
ââ¬ÅEspecially for Kotoko, we have about two or three players, who have done so well this season that should have earned call-ups, but they missed out.
ââ¬ÅAt the moment Kwesi Appiah is the head coach, so we have to back him to create a good atmosphere for him to succeed.ââ¬
It would be recalled that Premier League Board chairman Welbeck Abra-Appiah also wanted more locally-based players.
