Richard Kingson's reputation is on the line over bribery claims

Ghana FA Executive member Winfred Osei Parma says the failure of Richard Kingson to expose the syndicate that approached him to throw a World Cup match in 2006 could dent his reputation.

The 34-year-old confessed at a Nigerian Church over the weekend that he rejected a staggering offer of $300,000 (£187,000) to ensure his country lost 2-0 to the Czech Republic in the group stage at the world mundial in Germany.

Many interpretations have been given to the shocking revelation from the former Wigan shot-stopper after he fell short of mentioning the names of the supposed syndicate that mooted the idea.

Despite admitting weighing up the option before deciding against the offer, the Tema Youth chief insists shelving the personalties who plotted the move will tarnish his hard won reputation.

“He knows those who approached him and for that matter he cannot leave the issue hanging,” Parma told Radio XYZ.

“If he has been bold enough to come out that he was approached for such an offer, then the most prudent thing for him to do is to mention names.

“Because the moment you come out and you leave things hanging, everybody becomes a suspect. It could be Osei Parma who approached him with that kind of money.

“So if he has been bold enough to say such an offer was put on his table, I feel that Richard should be able to mention names otherwise everybody stands accuse.”

He continued: “My sole advice is that there are certain things that you don’t throw out in the media. Over the two week period that we have discussed him in the media, is he enjoying the kind attention being given to him?

“First the wife issue came up and now this bribery allegation. Is he in the right frame of mind? If he is not in the right frame of mind, then I will entreat him to go slow on certain things.

“Otherwise whatever credibility that he has built over the period will be thrown down the drain and I don’t think it will benefit him.”

Goals from Asamoah Gyan and Sulley Muntari saw Ghana beat the Czechs 2-0. They went on to qualify for the knockout phase, in which they were beaten 3-0 by South American powerhouse Brazil.

  Now while many people are arguing that he should name his source, am on the other hand arguing why he had to weigh his options? If someone approaches you to throw an international match on the world stage, does one need to consult others (in this case his wife) before making a decision? Kingson, by consulting his wife, has showed that he does not have the country at heart. If i was playing for Ghana, and someone approached me with such ransom, I will outright say NO. I would not even blink to think about it. Why should I choose money over my country and people? If Kingson loves Ghana, he would have immediately said NO rather than consult his wife. So if his wife had said YES, would he have thrown the match, let down his team mates and break the hearts of Ghanaians?

    Thank you for hitting the nail right on the head. IS it not strange that he could not tell any member of the GFA about the bribery approach? Or should i assume that those who approached him included some members of the GFA. If no then why did he not report to the GFA right then. We must demand answers to these questions for i cannot trust he Kingston and the GFA who are not asking him to name the people involved instead of behaving as if they have not heard him.

l don’t think Osei Parma is the right person to comment on Kingson’s issue.
He has the same reputation of making vague allegation.
l feel sorry for kingson.The story of his wife bewitching him is posted on yahoo and it FEATURED on so many news papers in the UK.
Can’t make out why some people still believe in this witchcraft nonsense.
The west abandoned this stupid belief system way back in the 16th century.This is 21st century,african.

Guys, please this case needs more investigations, this is not a case you let go because his been in poles for ghana for long, how do we know he did not take money against Brazil. the GFA should employ the BNI to investigate more.the person who came to him to throw in the match has his contact and will always come back to him with more offers.

Osei Parma and his colleagues at the Football Association should rather bow their heads in shame for allowing these ignorant players to go on their own to be exploited by spiritualists.Knowing the literacy levels of these players I thought Parma would have accepted the blame for not helping these players with sports psychologists when they were at the peak of their careers.

R.Kingson`s Bribe Claims doesn`t have 1 single grain of truth in it. Infact it doesn`t make sense at all that Czech Republic who are 2nd in the world in 2006 and going into the Ghana game they already had 3 points by defeating USA and Ghana has ZERO point by losing to ITALY, so how can someone who is 2nd in the world and who has 3 points and who all the football pundits tip them to beat Ghana. How can someone with all this advantage bribe an opponent? It doesn`t make sense at all. Kingson Just want to be in the spot light because it seems like every Ghanaian has forgotten about him and he feel disgrunted that Kwarasey has send him retiring.

In 2006 Czech Republic were 2nd World best team on Fifa List. Due to their Qualification and Friendly matches they were just outstanding. How can they bribe a team which are below them. Does it make sense for Spain to Bribe Zambia in order to qualify or Barcelona to Bribe Ajax? Come on people this doesn`t make sense at all. and Czech already has 3 points and Ghana has nothing. You guys should remember that beating Czech made us famous. One only become famous when he beats the best, and how can the best bribe the inferior? You have been every where causing problems all over the country and this has to stop immediately cos you have done a lot for Ghana in your hey days.
