Key players drop out of Ghana's starting line up to face Congo

Anthony Annan failed to make Ghana's starting line up in DR Congo opener

Key players; Anthony Annan and Isaac Vorsah have dropped out of Ghana’s starting line up to face DR Congo on Sunday.

The two influential players will start from the bench despite recovering from injuries in the opening Group B game at the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations.

It appears coach Akwasi Appiah has opted for only 100 percent fit players for the expected crunch game against the Leopards.

First choice goalkeeper Adam Kwarasey is also a major casualty as he loses out to locally-based Fatau Dauda for the game in Port Elizabeth.

The Stromsgodset shot-stopper’s several mistakes in the post for Ghana seems to have cost him is no.1 position to the more assured AshantiGold goalkeeper who is yet to concede an international goal.

Experienced John Paintsil fills-in in his regular right-back position with Kwadwo Asamoah doing same on the other defensive flank for the Black Stars.

The central defensive pair of John Boye and Jerry Akaminko will be relived from their Heart of Lions days with Derek Boateng sitting right in front of them to provide cover.

Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu will be the anchor man in midfield and will be flanked by Mubarak Wakaso and Albert Adomah.

Christian Atsu is expected to provide the vital assists for lone striker Asamoah Gyan.

Ghana’s starting line up:

Fatau Dauda – John Paintsil, John Boye, Jerry Akaminko, Kwadwo Asamoah – Derek Boateng, Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu, Mubarak Wakaso, Albert Adomah, Christian Atsu – Asamoah Gyan.

    • Viper says:

Neither the coach nor the players have nothing to prove to idiots like you…now jonso na kodah..

      • Africanus says:

Why are you insulting him. What did he say wrong?

        • biased reports says:

          @kwame fool go and sleep
@africanus u cant read too or u dnt understand english?

          • GH FUO, THINK BIG!!! says:

            GHANA VS CONGO DR
SOMETIMES, I DONT KNOW WAT AA IS THINKING
PLAY THE 5 3 2 FORMATION. PLAY BREAK N PASS BALL. 2/3 TOUCHES ONLY FOR EVERY PLAYER…AT ALL TIMES
IN THE FIRST HALF, U COULD VISIBLY SEE THAT GYAN NEEDS HELP. HE NEEDS SOMEONE TO DO GIVE N GO!
THE MIDFIELD IS NON EXISTENT, AND DEREK IS NOT DISCIPLINED. DEREK DOSENT FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS. HE IS USELESS!
THE INSTRUCTIONS FOR DEREK ARE VERY SIMPLE…
            A. BREAK/STOP ATTACKING ADVANCES OF OPPONENTS INTO THE GH HALF
            B. RELEASE THE BALL TO THE WINGERS OR THE $TRIKERS AND REST. I REPEAT, NO BACK PASSES!
THIS ISNT WAT DEREK WAS DOING. HE WAS CAUGHT TRYING TO BE A STAR ON THE FIELD. HE RARELY TRIES TO STOP OPPONENTS ATTACKS INTO THE GH HALF.
ON THE OCASSION THAT HE DOES, DEREK IS SEEN HOLDING UNTO THE BALL LIKE HE THINKS HE IS MARADONNA OR MESSI. IDIOT, JUST WIN THE BALL AND PASS IT
I TOLD U TO LEAVE DEREK ALONE. NOW U SEE?

I DONT SEE ANY URGENCY, AND SERIOUNESS WITH THE TEAM, YET
THEY R NOT URGENT IN FORCING THE ISSUE. THE BEST PLAYERS THUS FAR HAS BEEN BADU, WAKASSO, AKAMINKO, FATAU
ASAMOAH IS LEAKING THE LEFT BACK AT TIMES. OUR 4 N 5 PLAYERS NEED TO BE AWAKE AT ALL TIMES IN THE 18YARD BOX WHEN THE OPPONRNTS ARE ATTACKING
AA IS NOW PAYING THE PRICE FOR NOT CALLING NATURAL LEFT BACKS LIKE DAVID ADDY AND NANA ASARE
WHY DONT U USE KISSI BOATENG, HUH? U KNOW KISSI BOATENG IS NOT UP TO STANDARD SO WHY DID U EVEN CALL HIM FOR THIS TOURNAMNT?
THE TEAM IS NOT DISCIPLINED. LOOK AT THE NUMBER OF CARDS GH RECEIVED?
HW3, AFFUL CANT PLAY THE 3. THE CONGO DR PLAYERS ARE RUNNING PAST HIM LIKE WATER.
START AFFUL ON THE 2 AND SIT DOWN PAINSTIL TILL THE LATTER STAGES OF THE SECOND HALD. PAINSTIL DID A GOOD JOB AT HOLDING THE RIGHT BACK SPOT.
AA BETTER PUT WAKASSO N KISSI BOATENG AT THE LEFT BACK
I DONT UNDERSTAND WHY BOYE WAS ALLOWED TO START. AA, SHOULD USE AKAMINKO AND AWAL AS STARTERS INSTEAD
THIS IS A WOEFUL PERFORMANCE. IM DISAPPOINTED. WE CANT GO ANYWHERE IS OUR DEFENCE MAKES CARELESS MISTAKES LIKE THIS..TWEAAAA!
STRIKERS/attackers win you a match, DEFENDERS win you a tournament.
PLAY THE 5 3 2 FORMATION. PLAY BREAK N PASS BALL. 2/3 TOUCHES ONLY…AT ALL TIMES

  2. Viper says:

Well, let go get ‘em and break some legs..

  3. yaw2 says:

    Good line up..Ghana 4 Congo 0

  4. jon says:

    perfect selection,,,okatakyie kwasi appiah

  5. Unknown says:

Didn’t expect this but let’s hope things work out well with this interesting line up! Go Black Stars!

  6. 2yung says:

I dnt understand why kwadwo Asamoah shd be onde left handside of de defence

  7. Goro says:

Looks fine……….if only we could get Kwadwo Asamoah to man the left side of attack instead of the left side of defense. Mubarak is equally capable though…I had imagined K. Appiah was going to have this line-up, with Wackaso sharing the defensive duty with Kwadwo Asamoah. I am a bit worried about the role Atsu will play, if he drifts too much to either side of the field, that might affect the performance of the wingers and the team in general. All said and done,,,good luck boys~

  8. king says:

    Receipe for disasters

  9. Cunt master flex says:

Yeah gud squad wish de black stars all de best.

  10. JAKK says:

Good one there! KP Ghana is behind you.

  11. JAKK says:

Good one there! K.A. Ghana is solidly behind you.

  12. tank God we are nt zambians says:

    @kwame ”wo maame tw3”

  13. julius says:

MY ONLY PROBLEM IS KWADWO ASAMOAH AT LEFT BACK. I THINK HE WILL DO BETTER PLAYING BEHIND GYAN OR ON LEFT SIDE OF ATTACK. ANYWAY ALL THE BEST BLACK STARS.

  14. Chu says:

GSN I told you that always get your facts right and that it is not always that kids read this site. Dauda conceded against south Africa in 2009 in a friendly. And what the fuck is Derek doing in the start. We’ve got yousif mulumbu in the midfield and we need a standpoint tackler. Derek is a hole

  15. Fiifi says:

Good squad, but AA unknowingly revealed his strategy/tactics a couple of day ago in an interview , also a very VITAL player is missing (fitness reasons ??). Let’s hope things go well for him and the team!

  16. Al-Hajj SA Rhack Nartey says:

Go black stars,go black stars and win the ultimate for Ghana insha Allaah. All the best of luck
I expect three goals from you without a reply from Congo.

  17. KWAME PITO says:

Good squad except Afful for pantsil will be best.we go win 3 nil.

And FATAU DAUDA, WAS IT NOT HIM WHO ALLOWED TWO EARLY GOALS AGAINST LIBERIA RECENTLY? GSN COME AGAIN.

  18. Maxwell Johnson says:

Fatau Dauda in goal??? Pls come again A.A, also Annan should have started in other to stop the runs of Y. Mulumbu in midfield jux like he did to S. Keita against Mali in the last AFCON. Wish the the starts the best of luck, GO GH!!

  19. Maxwell Johnson says:

Fuck u Gyan!!! That was a begging chance.
