Schalke coach Jens Keller is heaving a massive sigh of relief with news Kevin-Prince Boateng’s latest injury is not related with his persistent knee problems.

The Ghana international has instead been diagnosed with a calf injury.

Boateng missed Saturday’s goalless draw at Nuremberg haven picked up an injury on Schalke’s final training session.

The ex AC Milan star has been limited to just 12 top flight appearances for Schalke this term – owing his absence to a recurring knee problem.

His latest injury sparked fears he had aggravated his chronic knee injury and could stay on the sidelines for a longer period.

The Ghana forward has however been cleared to make a quicker return after scans reveal he suffered a calf injury.

Boateng is now likely to return to first team action when the Bundesliga resumes after the winter break on January 26 where Schalke will travel to face Hamburg.
