AC Milan midfielder Kevin Prince Boateng has confirmed to the Ghana Football Association that he has returned to the Black Stars after a two-year absence, making him available for next month’s World Cup qualifying clash against Zambia.
The Germany-born midfielder wrote to the Ghana FA on Wednesday to confirm his decision to return to action for his father’s country.
This means the AC Milan ace will be available for selection for next month’s crucial Brazil 2014 World Cup qualifier against Zambia at home.
“I write to inform the Ghana Football Association that after a few consultations, I have decided to change my decision and confirm my availability to play for the Black Stars whenever I am needed,’ Boateng’s letter published by the GFA read.
The decision is a massive confidence boost for the Black Stars as they prepare to take on Zambia in the decider in Kumasi on 6 September to decide which side would reach the final phase of the qualifiers.
Boateng retired from Black Stars duties in November 2011, saying frequent injuries were behind the decision and wanted to concentrate on club football.
His shock resignation came 18 months after he was cleared by FIFA to play for Ghana having represented Germany as a youth international.
He played for Ghana at the 2010 World Cup in Germany which resulted in him getting the lucrative move to AC Milan. Former Black Stars coach Goran Stevanovic made several unsuccessful attempts to talk him out of retirement.
However, in June,a Ghana FA chief Kwesi Nyantakyi, Tony Baffoe and Executive Committee member Yaw Boateng Gyan, persuaded the 26-year-old to make a U-turn.
Boateng was one of Ghana’s star performers at the 2010 FIFA World Cup finals in South Africa where the He won nine caps and scored one goal-in Ghana’s 2-1 second round win over the United States at the World Cup.
