General News of Wednesday, 18 April 2012Source: citifmonline Beleaguered Member of Parliament for Assin North, Kennedy Agyapong is spending his third night in BNI cells after he was taken there from court on Wednesday. His lawyers failed to secure bail for him on his first day in court.

The lawyers after their failed first attempt asked the supporters to return to court tomorrow with white handkerchiefs to jubilate over his apparent release.

The Adjabeng Magistrate Court in Accra presided over by her Worship Patricia Quansah on Wednesday referred the treason case against Mr. Agyapong to the Chief Justice for advice.

The magistrate told the prosecution her court lacked the jurisdiction to preside over the matter.

Lead counsel of Kennedy Agyapong’s lawyers, Ayikoi Otoo told Citi Newsthey are left with no choice than file a writ of habeas corpus.

“What this means is that she [her Worship Patricia Quansah] will refer the matter to the chief justice because she has decline jurisdiction. It also means she cannot even consider the issue of bail” he said.

The court was besieged by hundreds of party supporters and executives. NPP Chairman, Jake Obetsebi Lamptey speaking to Citi News, also expressed his disappointment in the court’s failure to grant Kennedy Agyapong bail.**
