Former Hearts of Oak goalkeepers’ trainer Abubakar Damba sees wisdom in Philemon McCarthy’s decision to leave the club.

McCarthy failed to reach an agreement with Hearts after the expiration of his contract and was not handed a new deal.

Also, the arrival of former Kotoko goalkeeper Soulama Abubakar meant he would have played second fiddle to the Burkina Faso international.

Damba believes McCarthy has done his career a lot good to look elsewhere.

“When you look at the trend of modern day goalkeeping you will realize that McCarthy has got those attributes,” Damba said.

“The ability to command your defence and initiate attacks and at important times bail out your defenders.

“All these qualifies are found in him so I sincerely think he has weighed the options and decided that playing regularly elsewhere would do him a lot good.”

McCarthy has been linked with a move back to his former club Fetteh Feyenoord Academy now under the name West Africa Football Academy.
