France-based Jonathan Mensah says the current crop of Ghana players want to make history by winning the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations.

The Black Stars have been without a continental title since winning the tournament for a fourth time in Libya in 1982.

But four-time continental champions have come close on two occasions losing in the finals of the 1992 and 2010 editions against Ivory Coast and Egypt.

Ghana were unconvincing in the qualifiers to the 2015 tournament and are less-fancied to contest for the trophy.

But for Evian TG centre-back Mensah, the select-band of players want to end the long wait for a major title.

“For us the players we want to make history by making sure that we lift a trophy for Ghana in a major tournament,” Mensah was quoted by sportscrusader.com.

“Thankfully we have another chance in Equatorial Guinea and we are asking all Ghanaians and the GFA to make sure that we get a smooth preparation ahead of the tournament, because I personally believe that we have enough quality to win the trophy.”
