Jonathan Mensah begins training at Evian TG; hands Black Stars AFCON boost

Defender Jonathan Mensah has boosted his chances of playing at the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations after returning to training.

The centre-back suffered a left thigh injury while playing for his French Ligue 1 side Evian Thonon-Gaillard early last month.

The 22-year-old was ruled out of action for six weeks, meaning he was a doubt for Nations Cup preparations.

Mensah is regarded as a like-for-like replacement for injury-prone John Mensah for the tournament.

The 22-year-old has rich experience at international level after playing at 2010 FIFA World Cup and the 2012 Nations Cup finals.

He was an unused substitute at the 2010 Africa Cup of Nations when Ghana won silver in Angola.

Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah will heave a sigh of relief after another centre-back Isaac Vorsah returned to action for his Austrian side Red Bull Salzburg.
